FFS don't bother! The whole principle of ignition timing is to time the highest cylinder pressure to the best crank position for highest torque. How the **** the spark can affect the flame propogation of a petrol air mix is beyond me! In short, its b0ll0x!!!

Correct!!! All that matters with a spark plug is heat rating, position of tip in combustion chamber and the shrouding around the tip. NOTHING else matters....

so why do folk have platinum and irridium in that case and not just use standard plugs?

the main reason is a longer life. usually 50-60,000 miles compared to 12-20,000 miles for a copper plug

i say these would work far better and give a slight power increase , not nothing noticeable though . you need a nice strong spark . as with spark plugs when they get a bit tired and don't spark as strong as they did when new your car is harded to start . so hence a stronger and more powerful spark is a must .
