A mate of has recently bought a set of reconditioned Zender alloys for his Alfa 164, he has been having problems with them loosing pressure. When he took them in to his local garage they told him that the alloys were porous, is this likely to be correct? If it is can this be fixed by adding some kind of sealant?

Will this affect the integrity of the wheels?

not sure if that is possible but older tyres corrode around the rims and stop the tyres seating properly. Maybe it is the corrosion that is porous. They can be cleaned easily up by any tyre fitters

He might have to put tubes in them. Not the safest thing but might be he's only option short of new rims?

Alloy wheels CAN go porous over time, my Dad had a MG Metro Turbo that had 2 porous alloys. He had tubes put in them but got rid of the car not long after.

New continentals all round I think, going to try nitrogen to see if the larger molecules find it harder to escape.
