Computerised POS

Anybody got any pointers/ recommendations/ tips for building an electronic POS. It's for a beauty salon, so will need bar-coding for maybe 150 items, probably 10 department allocations and the facility for discounts/ promotions etc - so a very basic system.

 

Will probably just run it from a laptop or a cheap desktop so really looking for software & accessory recommendations.
