22/23 September is Run What Ya Brung weedend. Event takes place at RAF Portreath near Redruth and is over both the Sat and Sun. This might be a good venue for the Cornish meet (Sunday 23 most preferable) and an opportunity for some of our more daring members to push their cars up the drag strip - no pun intended as I know most cars were being repaired at the last meet in Exeter. Although no "official" notification has been given, it has been advertsied on the local motorbike site and also on the South West Scoobies site so suggest it is a starter.

For those wishing to travel distance, I have a very large field next to my house which can easily accommodate cars and camping over the weekend. We could actually make a good weekend of this with a few bevvies on the Saturday night and go to the RWYB on the Sunday. Think the gates open about 1030. Have several BBQs so if the weather is on our side this could be a good event. Pubs are a short walk up the road but this is bandit country and they can be a little rough and ready. Alternatively, drive to some more up market place.

What Dave is saying is that we make an effort and travel all over the sw to attend meets, we had a meet in Plymouth for a dyno day and none of the cornish came apart from retro and zogg(the usual dedicated members) none of sw came either. Just seems unfair that we have to travel and it would make better meets if everyone made an effort..its once a month surely everyone can try to attend. It just seems that cornwall like to have there meets in cornwall and sw like to have theres up bristol way...i am aware that we had a exeter meet and that was cool, but we need to arrange these meets more fairly and try and get everyone together :)

Moan over,lol :p

Have just seen this post as I have been off line and "out of action" for some time. Have read many of the comments and can see the argument from both sides. I fully agree that you and Dave appear to travel the length of the UK for a Zed meet and my respect goes out to you for your dedication and attempts to organise meets/events. Club survival will always depend on people such as yourself.

I work away from home (so weekends are valued) and my interests are not only Zeds (I'm afraid bikes will always take a priority and I like to attend the race meets) but I am more than willing to make the effort to travel distance if the prospects look good. I had every intention of travelling to the last Exeter meet (looked like a good gathering of Zeds) but after reading that most were attending without a Zed I have to say that my enthusiasm quickly fell flat. I agree that it is also about the people (thought I would get this one in early before someone came back with a comment) but we are not talking about a quick Monday night gathering in the local pub - some of us have to take the whole day out for this and travel considerable distance (Exeter meet would have been nearly 300 miles round trip for many of us from deepest Cornwall).

The Cornish Zed scene appears to be flourishing (which must be good for the Zed club) and we now have 10 Zeds in the area that I know of. I appreciate that there is a South West Rep but the coverage area involved is just not going to work for all of us. The last meet we had in Cornall was 9 Zeds with only one other car (Royal in his impressive RX7 who also got the meet started) so I think we are certainly doing OK. Ray or myself will attempt to drum up enthusiasm (we have the same problem) for as many local "Cornish" meets as we can and if we are able to combine them with yours then that would be great.

Sorry this is a little long winded but hopefully it makes things a little clearer.
