Why are some wheels reverse fit. As when they go in the tyre machine they go face down. Any perticular reason for this?

maybe so they dont damage the face when levering the tyre on. (complete guess btw)

but then wouldnt all alloy wheels be like that?

no. some have delicate finishes or plastic inserts ect on the rim.

alloy wheels are quite tough generally its the monkey fitter that fooks them up. a good tyre place is best for your alloys

this was a bog standard one off an old ford escort

its normaly down to the depth of the outer rim i.e. deep dish alloys, tyres are fitted from rear of wheel. all depends on design of wheel really but once outer dish goes over 2.5"/3.0" it makes it hard to fit/remove tyre especially if tyre has stiff sidewalls.
