I blew my engine up a week ago, bottom end, just a quickie to see what you guys think,

Ive brought an engine and am thinking about taking on the task of removing the blown one and fitting the new one myself with the help of a couple of mates, between us we have done ford cossie and pulsar gtir engines but a zed is a lot bigger and more complcated, add to the fact it would have to come out the top as well because we dont have a lift, are we taking on to much or has anybody out there done it themselves? :smw:

Go for it, if you have experience its not that much different. It will take longer and its always daunting the first time. Just make sure you label up as much as you can, there are LOADS of little vacumn pipes.

Removal from top with an engine crane is the normal way.

Hi Mate, I took mine out and put it back with only minor help from someone to operate engine crane, when putting back in. Mines an auto and I undid box and just pulled out engine. Not much room round the back!! I think the workshop manual says to lift engine and box out in one, but someone else with a workshop manual will be able to clarify that.

Go for it bud ,a mate helped me take mine out to do the tubs , while it was out we did rear crank seal , core plugs , rocker cover gaskets , VVT springs and replaced all the pipes we could just for peace of mind .

Only advice is label and photo everything , seperate, label and keep the bolts for each part you remove , makes life soooo much easier when it,s all going back in  .

Oh yeah , the power steering pump and the aircon pump can stay in situ , just unbolt them off the engine :hyper: .HTH
