Word of mouth, wins hands down every time for effectiveness. Very hard to get, though!

It would be advertising for an internet based trading company. Obviously would like the cheaper options but would listen to any suggestions.

leaflets are goo, get them distributed buy the same people that deliver the Free Newspaper that come through your door. But as aaron said depends on your business and what type of customer you looking to target

For an internet business you probably want to be looking at well thought out Google AdWords campaigns - read up on how to create a good campaign before spending your cash, though..

linking blogs to your website is the cheapest and best was of getting your website ranked on the search engines.

dependant upon the nature of the business and what you are selling, adverts on forums etc are cost effective, and being prominent on all the major search engines, i suppose its a case of researching your target market and where they are most prominent too, id say you would need to do a lot of research into where and who your customers are before you can further your marketing.
