Electronic Control Unit - Its the Computer that controls Fueling and timing and monitors all the sensors on the car. Its an electronic box, usually about size of a car Stereo.

 

Fitted inside (usually in passenger footwel under the carpet) or under a plastic cover in engine bay.

So by rights it SHOULDNT be the hardest repair in the world?

Once the parts are found it comes down to just unplus, plug in new one??

Bril. i found an ad for a 1999 rover 200 that the ecu has gone in and he looking for 250euro! take it the car wont drive without the ecu working?

doubt it, how much is a replacement ecu and how easy are they to get?

Well was having a look and they seem to be easy enough to get hold of! found a website that has all engine parts and they have it advertised at £255 which when put to the price of the car is reasonable with me!

MEMS( rover ecu) is a pain, if it has a rover alarm with a immobiliser then there is a chance the immobiliser is keyed to that particular transponder code in the key and wont work with your car, go to http://www.rovertech.net for more info as its been a while since i messed with rovers

Thank you i will have to ring him and find out whether he has a rover alarm/immobiliser
