I had some trellis put on top of my fence today.

A bloke who lives nearby just came over to complain.

He doesn't like the fact the wooden batons that hold the trellis in place are on the outside of the fence.

The other side of my fence goes onto a shared parking area (not mine - for his and a few other houses).

Any idea if I need to take the trellis down / move the batons to inside the fence? They'd be much harder to put up inside as all the posts/struts etc of the fence are on the inside.

Ha

This pales into comparison to what my Brother is going through over fences.

Very quick, He bought 5 acres of alnd next door to his back garden.

The lower part of the same parcel of land was bought by a consortium of house owners (including my brother) adn was to be divied up after.

Access to the lower half (the consortium) was through a gate and gained access from teh top half (my brothers land)

At a metting he said, if they wanted continued access they would have to pay to have his feild fenced with a designated path to the lower feild. They said no. SO the day of completion, and because my brother does not want to have to pay insurance to allow the public acces, he padlocked the gate.

That day someone came along and DUG UP the gate.

The main point should be, who owns the fence. If the fence fell down is it your responsibility to replace the fence. If it is, you own the fence, and as I understand it, they would need your permission to paint/stain the fence in the first place. If your deeds say the fence is yours, tell 'em to sod off.

You would be surprised how much trouble fences cause..... Thats a good site to read that Viniboy posted.... very useful info in there

Tim check with the council also check how high you are allowed to have the fence. usually it's no more then 6ft.

It the other side of the fence is not your land you cann't without the other owners permission and its best to get it in writing attach anything to that side of the fence. Your builder should have been aware of this. I'd make him sort it out and don't pay him any more monies either.

Sorry mate but that's the law. :(

take the batons off & paint the outside of your fence pink with blue spots

mate, seriously....... No More Nails!!!!

I bought a HUGE tub about 2 years ago to hold my trellis on, never been a problem and i live in windy windy Scotland :hyper:

Can we see the picture of the offending fence? and batons?

If they want to get arsey ask them why they have painted YOUR fence?
