Can anyone tell me what the filter under drivers wing is for for a Nissan 300zx?

I thought it'd be the AIV system, do a search. it's a none essential if you have a decatted exhaust system but you need to do some plumbing to remove it

i forgot to say my 300 is a uk car the filter came to my attention when i heard a noise from under driver side wing it looks like an air filter which is connected to some sort of pump it would be great if i could findout its function

AIV system.

Gets clogged up with water over the years and makes a gurgling sound.

You can drill a hole in the bottom to drain the water off or rip the whole lot out as it's not really needed.
