A guy at work has an Alfa 147 selespeed and he keeps having problems where he parks the car and when he comes back to it, it wont start again. He has spent thousands with alfa trying to fix it and now he wants to sell the car.

I am interested in buying it from him but want to run a question by you guys first.

Normal autos, you put in park when you stop. I asked him if he did that and he said no.... could that be the issue?

Has anyone had a selespeed Alfa here?

Do you treat them like regular autos and is he being a numpty?

Let me know so I can pick up a bargain!

Cheers

Steve

well mine wont . ;)

take it for a test drive without him in the car go round the corner, park it up put in park turn off, then try and re-start..

its not brain surgery dude..pmsl

but then you might need some if you buy it (alfa = expensive pita when they go wrong)

deeper pockets needed than being a zed owner thats for damn sure

Yep - my Celica won't start unless its in Park either.

I've driven a couple of Auto's & they do the same, as Speedfreak suggested - take it for a spin & test it.

some autos need foot on brake too - but (unless alfa are ripping the piss & laughin at him behind his back) I'd leave well alone... alfa electronics aren't exactly easy/ cheap to fix!!

Selespeed is different, it doesn't have park, I just called alfa and they say you MUST stop the car in gear and a computer puts it in neutral when starting.

My guess is it really is fooked, so I am going to stay well clear.

Thanks for the help guys

stay clear off alfas in general, selespeed is known to have constant problems with the transmissions

avoid the v6 alfa especially.

do a search on google with the words selespeed, there shite LOL

The Selespeed is more like a modified manual box than a normal auto so it sounds like it's knackered.

I don't know why you'd want to stay away from the V6 it's been in use for about 15 years in various forms and is one of the most reliable and respected performance V6's out there :)

I've had 2 with not a single problem... until I wrote one off LOL

i work for alfa and yes stay away from the selespeed !!!

The V6 is sooo nice, and is actually a lot more reliable than the twin spark!

i cant say there terrible i guess its on chance etc, i know 2 people who have had the v6 alfa and have both had engine failure.

horses for courses, i like alfas and wanted one, however the thought of reliability worries me.

My mate sarah had this problem, turned out you have to switch it off after shifting it to either neural or first and hold down the brake as you switch it off otherwise the box computer crashes and won't start up the next time.

Something along those lines, had a drive myself in it and found it very confusing :D
