So I´m in Spain (don´t go and burgle me house - the in-laws are there and are for more ferocious than me).

Anyway, whenever I try and ask for something in Spanish, the locals look confused. So I ask them in English - and they understand!

At least I try! Grande Cervesa por favor. Rapido rapido mondo. Eth eth eth eth Nobby Stiles eth eth eth. :duffer:

Or alternatively, try this with the waiter to get the very best food and service:

a ti no te parieron, te cagaron

or, when wooing under a kissing moon with the sound of the maracas snapping gently in your ear, spoken tenderly: Pinche Baboso...

The effect, I take pains to assure you, will be astounding...:D ;)

bugger that's bad

Where in Spain are you?

I'm thinking of going to Sevilla, to practice my spanish and to drink a lot and chill out with friends.... if they are all talking english

Quiero hablar español

almost without exception on the Costas the bar owners and waiters have learnt enough English to serve the Brits. They are proud to show this off to you and believe it will be easier for you to use English in their bar/restaurant/Hotel etc.

Many tourist attractions in the main cities will also be able to do a little English. However the moment you move away from the Costas you WILL need your Spanish. for example stepping off the bus in a town like Montilla on the way to Cordoba from Malaga you will be hard pressed to find anyone in town who speaks English and neither will the bus driver or any of the other passengers.

And as often say to Spaniards who remark to me that my Spanish is pretty good....Vale la pena hacer el esfuerzo!!!
