Japnortheast April 15th Sunderland Meet

Its that time again

decision was made to make this meet the third week end of April due to Donny show....

Car of show will be held each month throughout the year, based on transmission,

one month Front Wheel drive

one month Rear Wheel drive

one month 4 Wheel drive.......................then return to Front Wheel drive...

The month of April Car of Show will be The Four wheel drive cars.......

April the 15th at the Stadium of Light, starting at 2pm running until whenever everyone leaves!

Usual mix of stunning Jap Cars all the regulars and much more, Standard attendance now reaching a constant 150+ Cars, Burger van in attendance, JNE Raffle & much much more. We would love to see you all there

Really wanted to go but I doubt I will make it as I am attempting to replace the heater matrix this weekend and not sure how long it will take or if I will get it finished (missed Donny due to it).

Lets hope the rest of the year gets better as I have already spent £2000+ since Jan on replacement parts/maintanence (not including mods) and it's been brought home on a flatbed twice this year.

Hopefully everyone elses are running smoothly

Project Black Sunshine - The 300bhp NA

Great post! Very interesting. So I've been dealing with similar concerns on my build as well before I decided to tear things down and make some changes. I have also been in talks with a local performance custom exhaust builder and discussed with him my concerns with the typical aftermarket header setups available for these cars. Is the same shop going to do the research for you or are you taking it to another company? I would be interested in testing some stuff as well or can provide further data if necessary for my race car NA 300ZX slicktop. Our projected power ceilings are not so dissimilar. My machinist shop and I are currently still in the build phase for the new setup.

You’ll likely find the cabling around the knock sensor rather than the sensor itself is faulty. If I remember correctly the stock knock sensor is only activate in a certain portion of the rev range, ironically not at the most dangerous point. Basically it’s pretty crude. I deleted mine and fitted a resistor to mimic its function, very common modification.

What a journey it’s been. Yesterday, 4 years and 362 days since the terminal engine failure of my EPR “built” VG30DETT, my Z was back on the dyno.
I’m happy to report the engine that I specced, prepped and assembled survived and took everything that was thrown at it, with oil pressure being reported as “fantastic”. For a “hobbyist” I should be proud.

But I didn’t get the dump of dopamine I was expecting at the conclusion of the day, that rush of “I did it”. Instead I got the cold sweat of dread when Romain of RaceCal Ltd came off the dyno to debrief me. Fundamentally, everything is fine and the Z has a solid tune, but not without issue…. and I think it’s that very BUT that has taken the sheen off was a good day.

Firstly, the engine has a fuelling imbalance between banks that shifts dependant on load. I have a vague recollection that I’ve had this problem before and never got to the bottom of it.
That in combination with an issue with one of the hub dyno’s having a peculiar loading issue, brought about the conclusion of the day in the interests of safety. And I’m completely content with that decision!

A few other minor issues including a small oil leak that needs to be found as well as the curse of the ATi damper PS belt issue, meaning a 85 mile drive home with no PS.

I think the final factor in my overall post dyno emotions are that I thought i had everything in place to get the optimum output for this setup….. and I don’t. I need to invest time in making proper intercooler ducting to get that IAT recovery and efficiency to be able to make back to back runs. I need to add a second fuel pump to give me more head room to allow the potential maximise the 2860 turbos. I need to find the cause of this imbalance to remove any risk of misfuelling so that tune can be absolutely bang on to really optimise this setup. So, the journey isn’t over yet….. more work, more learning, more money 😂😂😂.
