Wondering if anyone on here is a builder/architect?. Ive just had an extension built, but want to create a new opening, possibly a door through one of the new block walls.

Below are pics of the wall where the opening will be, eitherside and a close up of the blocks.

Questions I have, how far away from the external wall (with windows on) do I have to come away from before I can open up the block work. Also, is there any regulations on how wide an opening/door should be.

Thanks in advance

Is it a door to the outside, or just between rooms?

If it's to the outside, are they gonna be french doors or

a single opener?

I don't think theres any legal limit as for how far you have

to come in before you cut a new opening, but don't quote

me on that!

Its just between two rooms. Initially was going to be one big bathroom, but now thinking of having a smaller bathroom, with an en-suite off from the other room.

Thanks

Then your just governed by the size (width) of internal door you

use really, 2.6", 2.8", 2.9" are standard widths, plus whatever the

door lining works out at.

Your only problem then, is which way to swing the door! If it's

gonna open into the other room, make sure the lightswitch is

accessible, ie: it shouldn't swing in & cover the switch.

The new door frame/opening can go right up to the outside wall if you like. The lintel above the new doorway/opening would go into the INNER wall section of your outer wall. Total time around 2 hours to cut open, put in lintel and fix frame etc ;)

Thanks for all your help guys.

Does anyone know how close I can go with the opening to the wall with the windows in, Im guessing im going to have to have a T shape to give support to the outer wall (not sure it that made sense lol)

Barry

As above mate, the lintel above the new opening will go into the INNER skin of the outer wall, so you can butt the new opening right up to it no problem
