sporty yet practicle for the wife, budget is around the 4k mark

any suggestions?

i keep looking towards the MERCEDES C36 AMG, has anyone got experience of owning one?

she does maybe 40 motorway miles a day so fuel consumption is a factor but not a huge one. ;)

Nice choice. I would also look at the Bmw 328i , Audi A4 (1.8T or 2.8 V6 quattro), Alfa Romeo 156 , Lexus IS200 , Impreza Turbo

she wont touch an alfa because of reliability issues, she wont have a beemer because of the stigma attatched

im not keen on the lexus looks

audi is a possibility, maybe looks a tad old fashioned though?

im having the same with my wife at the mo.

she regrets selling her zed and is looking for another.

we were budgeting under the 5k mark.

Beemers - same - stigma attached.

alfa - she had one before and totally unreliable - didnt like it and wont consider any alfa now.

300 - she loves

200sx - she loves - the newer model s14 & s15 have an ugly backside tho so it has to be a black s13.

she actually doesnt mind the mg tf? new shape model - pick these up around 5k.

mr2 - she doesnt like the look of

oh, she likes the mercedes slk (clk) in black (2 seater power hood jobbie).

Found one for 10K and she wants that one.......

Im praying a nice 200 or 300 turns up soon....

in going through the same situation with my mrs, she eventually decided that she liked the impreza... we bought one in the end and she absolutely loves it. not bad on fuel and a reliable workhorse which is also fun.

with all this said its still a tampon car so wouldnt be suitable for every1 so id say the 200zx is prolly a good way for her to go.

we needed a car with space to do things we couldnt in the zed (oh dear why did i say that! :slap: )... such as camping and cycling weekend trips, this is why we went for the wagon version. tbh i prefer the wagon as it is a little more understated and when im driving it i dont feel like the next n0b who thinks his impreza is really cool ;)

My missus has the CLK 230 kompressor, good for 150mph, 32mpg around town, 45mpg on the motorway and carries four in comfort. £238.00 fully comp and shes only in her 30's.

VW Golf GT TDi?....depends if practicality has to be the overriding factor?! this is my daily runaround and fairly nippy. I do get the odd 'hairdressers car' comments though!

If you're opposed to the heavy oil burners you could opt for the 2.3 V5 engine which are good for 170Bhp standard! Both engine options come in a variety of other cars to look at if the golf does'nt appeal......Not sure on consumption of the R32, but very well put together V6's with exelent handleing!
