I attended a track day over the weekend, best day i've ever had. And the zed didnt totally fail so it was a sucessful day as well.

But what croft has highlighted are some problems, in the stopping and cornering department.

So my question is, best rubber for them, what are my options for brakes? And are there any outstanding suspension setups. I'm not working on an exact budget, more looking at the most improvment for the money spent.

I've been to a local shop that have quoted me £460 for drilled and grooved disks front and rear and EBC red stuff pads, good plan or not?

Thanks guys

Chris

For brakes speak to Smithy http://www.smithys-place.co.uk/brakes.php

Suspension, I would poly bush the whole rear end and renew your hicas hardware, then do the front end and get new anti roll bars front and back.

Play with that for a while and think about what coil overs you want to use and how it affects the drivability, is it a daily driver or just a track car.

Well its my weekend driver. So It doesnt have to do a daily commute or anything. I only use it for a few personal miles, the odd short run on the motorway.

Its had new steering arms on the back end. What else is worth changing?

Where would i get it polybushed, or can i do that my self?

Getting it polybushed is quite a big job, so if you are just a tinckerer then I would get someone else to do it as it intails presses and all sorts of efforts.

I was going to start to do the bushes myself and sell the subframes and hubs ready for people to just fit, but I am emmigrating and have to put all my efforts into that now.

Maybe some one on here can do the bush's for you if you strip it all out.

i think i'll have someone do it for me then... being chronically useless!

If anyone knows where i could get that done, i live in the northwest, near lancaster. Then please speak up! :D

as for yer brake set up,£450 and the car still won't stop good enough , ur better off investing in front brakes only.... like the r33/34 skyline gtr brembo's which would cost you the same even though secondhand but much bigger disc,s and the car will stop ya.

so where would i find some of said skyline parts? Surly there cant be that much in the way of second hand R33 and R34 skyline parts around.

Any risk with second hand kit? or is it fairly reliable?

If you are after spending money wisely:

Energy Suspension full Poly bush Master Kit £130

Energy Suspension full Poly bush rear arm kit £45

Whiteline F + R Anti-Roll Bars £230

KYB AGX Shocks F+R £300

Spings: Eibach (£200), AVO, Tein, MJP custom (£150?) plenty of good price options.

Powertrix Front adjustable camber arms £250

Powertrix Front adjustable tension rods £150

Shim Kit for the rear camber £30

Skyline Brembo fronts - £450 At very least rebuild your calipers. Smithys big disc conversion worth a look too.

Ferodo DS 2500 Pads - £140

Braided brake hoses - £55

Master Cylinder brake brace - £35

Change your fluid.

Get the whole lot fitted at once then get it laser aligned.

Any risk with second hand kit? or is it fairly reliable?

You have to wonder why they are selling it, probably because they are upgrading, meaning the old stuff is probably caned. So be prepared to fork out for new pads and discs.

Would i need to do all of that work on that suspension work to get the best out of the other upgrades?

Could i fit all this with workshop facilities or would it need to go to a specialist? are there Any specialist Places in the northwest for our cars?

With regards to the brakes, im a bit wary about second hand skyline parts, do you think that rebuilt calipers and smithys big brake kit id be sorted for the odd track day?

It seems to make more sence to me, but is it going to stop the car properly?? I have to admit im not the greatest drive in the world so im not needing touring car performance ;)
