have been looking around and all I seem to be able to find out about the ALC II (Automatic Line Controller) from HKS references the standard ECU.

 

I have a Mines ECU, will this little device still work? (yes... my car is a auto tt)

 

Does anyone know how this actually works, is it an advantage to have?

yeah, be caerfull with the alc it raises the line pressure in the autobox for a faster gear change, if your autobox isnt 100% then i would think twice about fitting it bud!!

Not 100% true - the ALC will "maintain" line pressure during shift points which is not the same as raising the line pressure over all. There have been many threads and debates about whether the ALC promotes the demise of autoboxes and to be honest, there has never been any conclusive evidence to support this. Autoboxes are built with certain acceptable tolerances and an ALC does not exceed those tolerances. IMO it is more likely that drivers will drive their car "harder" when they know the ALC will shift faster. This extra strain on the drivetrain (not just the gearbox) is the likely cause of an autobox failure.

 

FYI - HKS has discontinued the production/sale of their ALC-II due to poor demand (not excessive compensation claims for damaged gearboxes).

 

If you do end up buying a used ALC-II make sure it comes complete with the wiring loom as it will be useless without it.

I had one on my car when it was an auto and found it made a big improvement.

My box lasted about 2 years after I fitted it but I was also running 16psi of boost and hammered it on a daily basis LOL

I ran exactly the combo that the listers want Mines ECU and HKS ALC2. result running std boost dead gearbox 5,000 miles later. Yes the drive was more urgent and gear changes were faster but..........the box went pop probably faster than it would have.

am curious, did you take the ALC2 out after your gearbox went pop, or did you fix the gearbox and leave it in? Since getting it fixed, have you had any other issues?

I don't think you can say an old gearbox has failed earlier than it would have.

It could have gone anytime after all these years.

was yours a Jspec box????

 

I know Chris C was a UK and they seam to out last the Jspec. Only difference is an oil cooler and UK hooligans. :rofl: :rofl:

No mine is Jap with a UK hooligan and no auto box cooler :D :rofl:

The car is now a Jap/UK hybrid manual :confused: LOL
