My PC crashed and died about Christmas time but we managed to recover most of my data before I binned the harddrive. The problem I've got is that some of the jpeg pictures are damaged and won't open even though some show up fine as thumbnails. It just says 'drawing failed' so I can't even view it to try and crop the damaged edges. Can anyone help please? they'll be a nice :duffer: in it for someone ;)

the thumbnails will show even if the picture is totally corrupt and not readable as the thumbnail image comes from a hidden system file that was created before to image file got damaged.

yes thumbnails get generated when you first navigate into a directory, and stored in thumbs.db. If you have the origonal thumbs.db then your pics are toast, if not you may be in luck. I have had the same thing happen before, i couldn't fix it.

OK thanks for the advice geezers. There's some software called pixrecovery that's supposed to work, I'll try and get hold of a copy
