More disturbing news. I think people are not taking this very seriously. Most people act like this is some legend when it is in fact very real. If we don't do something drastic as a society soon we can all forget about having any kind of future. Read:

Agree totally mate, over here in the UK we are being totally brainwashed by a lot of unfounded mumbo jumbo. I know in the US you have Bush to put up with but you know whats what when it comes to global warming. Now we have bird flu coming but that has been around for hundreds of years. Its like when people hear of a murder close to where you live,"never happened before" but thats because you never had the same media coverage before, its been going on for years/

LOL, it's ok if you are against what I said. I really like reading and talking to you guys to gain different prospectives (outside of the U.S's own media frenzy) whether it be on Z's or politics. If a topic gets everyone thinking then I believe it is valid no matter what side of the fence you are on.

Bush is dong, but we do get to choose a new leader every four years, so who we vote for is our fault, not theirs'.

Is owning a fuel guzzling rx-7 or zed using the worlds resurces more effectively?

I think not. Its all well and good to have a point but its a little hypocritical when you blatently ignore the point you have made.

Hi,

This was posted recently and puts the Earth in perspective with regard to the Sun affecting our weather more than anything else we might do!!

The Government will tax farting in bed soon! :D

true but i'm already one jump ahead of 'em and doing my bit for the enviroment i've been saving gas.............i've been farting in a money box

If you read a couple of pages back I clearly stated it was hypocritical of me. At the same time, I don't believe a few exhaust fumes twice a week, really have an enormous impact on global climate shift.

It's reassuring to believe:

* there isn't really a problem

or

* other people are to blame

Then you don't have to worry or change your life.

While some people may be talking advantage of the situation, that doesn't mean the problem's not real.

Climate change may well come and **** us all in the arse and saying it's not real / other people are worser than us isn't going to be much use then.

Try and live greener lives, lead by example.

You don't have to give up flying, get rid of your car, pay loads of extra tax etc. Just making small changes can help too - recycling, energy saving light bulbs, putting less water in the kettle.

Boys, boys,boyzzz...

If you really want to see 'climate control problems' in the making, travel to Asia / Malaysia / Kuala Lumpar.e.g.

Smog???You aint seen nothing like it...

I went out there in 03 for the F1 @ Sepang... They were doin a 'de-forestation' routine on race day.(wtf!?) The smog / smoke was so bad at the race start i could not see the end of the main straight on a cloudless sunny day.

And you can believe NONE of the cars on the road have anything near a cat converter and they all run with 'air-conn' on over drive!!!

I have a clear concience when driving my Zed... :D

Just my 10 peneth...

Thought I'd bring this thread back up after watching Al Gores documentary 'An Inconveinient Truth', and seeing some reactions to the C4 documentary (which I didn't see unfortunately as we don't have TV) used for defence by some people to ignore global warming.

There was an article in the Independent yesterday about the data used by the documentary. The main graph used showing temperature over the last 120yrs (stupidly small scale anyway but more of that in a mo!) only actually went to the early 1980s. The program makers (and they admitted 'there was a fluff there' to the paper) actually extended the axis to the yr 2000. The real graphs show a direct and very big rise in temp over the last 20yrs, very obviously linking it to the rise in c02 in the atmosphere.

Another part of the program talked about a link between Temp and solar activity. The programs data was 16YRS old, and since been corrected by Nasa.

Next was a graph supposedly showing that temperature during the medieval warm period was hotter than now. Again this was 16yrs old and up to date shows that temp are significantly hotter now.

The ten hottest years on record have occured in the last 14yrs

Al Gores documentary shows a temperature Co2 graph that goes back 650,000yrs (as compared to 120yrs!). I tried to do a screen grab but the dvd is protected and I couldn't do it. Here is my dodgy sketch of it. Its pretty faithful. The dips show the last 6 ice ages. The little bump at the end shows the bump that was talked about in the documentary. Its not hard to see over 650,000 yrs (!) how temperature links to Co2. Another interesting point is that the difference between the high and low points of the temperature is the difference between as we are now and A MILE OF ICE!! how much difference will that make on the hot side!!!

Actually you know next to nothing about the way I live. My rx7 has done about 1500 miles in the last 10mths. I've worked extremely hard to get a job that I work from home an average of 3 days or more per week, and so avoiding travelling by car every day (and rush hour thankfully). My day to day drive is another gas guzzling bmw with 220,000 on the clock which we use to tow. I'm certainly no angel but I'm doing my best to improve things the more I find out about what is happening.

Its worth noting that the rise in Co2 can actually be reversed if as a population we make the right changes. Its not Armegeddon.

Its not the fact that we have so-called 3ltr gas guzzlers (or in my case a 1.2ltr rotary that drinks more!) that is causing global warming. Its our overall attitude of procrastination in general that is causing it. There are so many ways that we can change things, which don't have to involve selling our beloved cars!

but no one knows for sure if we are behind the ""global warming"". Its just people need someone to blame and so we are naturally blamed. There have been major climate changes in the past - The ice age for example. No i doubt very much back then that the king of the cave told all the other people to stop screwing gas guzzling cars around. and we know that is wasnt due to their power plants or big fridges. So nothing they did caused that change in climate, so whats to say that anything we do will make a difference?

And your right, i know nothing about your life or the way you live, but i do know that if you were that concerned about the environment then you would live like the majority of new age travellers using no electricity or fumes etc etc...

You didn't read my post properly. I don't mean to drag on and make people sick of it but theres things here which are just not realised (at least I didn't!). There were SIX ice ages in the last 650,000yrs shown on that graph. On each one the CO2 levels and temperature were very much related to each other. We are now at a levels not seen ever in all those years of 6 ice-ages. All it would take would be the temperature to go up some more and things would go very very pair shaped.

Its also worth pointing out that if the mean temperature continues to rise we wont just be living in nice sunny balmy weather. We will be living in extremely violent changing weather. If a significant change in the ice caps happened (Greenland being the current most likely) and spewed cold water into the N.Atlantic then it would effect the gulf stream, stopping its motion of warm water into the North. The last time this happened Europe went back into an ice-age.

I don't think our particular hobbies are the cause of it, I think the cause is the world wide attitude of ignoring it. We can sort it out without living like a bunch of hippies not using electricity, we just need to acknowledge that SOMETHING is going on and we need to change.

The attitude that its just a reason to tax the people is just cynical. Why has there been such a resistance to legislation to changes from governments if this is the case?

Well my attitude is, like has been said, no one knows exactly what is causing the climate change, and , selfishly, i dont really care. And i will drive my Z as much as i can afford (not a lot at the mo). Because why should i make efforts when there are still formula 1, rally, toca races goin on everywhere, still cheap comercial air transport, busses, trucks, trains and all the other non essential stuff running all the time. When big efforts are made i will follow, i dont believe that me not driving my hard earned sports car will save the planet from an uncetain end.

Ah, feel better now.

danny

Gas fired power stations don't help. Last year I saw a huge one near Las Vegas which supply most of the city's power. Surely those fookers emit more CO2 than all our cars put together. Lake Mead is drying up so even the Hoover Dam will generate less power as time goes by. I'd rather have Nuclear Power Stations, they are ultra-efficient and, let's face it, reliable. The only reason Chernobyl went into meltdown was because it was run by the Russian government!

Lest we forget that the Motown 3 (American Politicians to the un-initiated) hold more sway over more voters than any other politician in the USA & if they are told to tell their constituants that there are gonna be job losses in Motown as a result of cleaner fuel & cleaner, more ecconomical engines AND the cars have gotta be smaller so the FAT YANKEE PIGS have to diet to boot - Theres gonna be a riot!! Why not just invade another Middle Eastern country & STEAL their foookin' OIL!!!! So much simpler than dealing with global warming or world shortages of natural resources accumulated over millions of years!! Finished RANTING for the time being!!

As i said in my earlier post global warming is a natural phenomena as is the next Ice age that will follow it, maybe the sharp rise in temperature is a natural and would of happened anyway or maybe we have just speeded it up with the felling of forests and burning of fossil fuels in the last 200 years. Its something we should all be aware of i think, not just for ourselves but for our children and future generations when we are long gone, the attitude of why should i bother if the bloke next door dont bother, thats just selfish, why not be the one to set the example instead of being selfish and burying our heads in the sand? Just planting a Tree will be a contribution, Trees are natures filters. Watch The Day After Tomorrow, there is a lot of truth in the film
