I find myself in possesion of two electric drivers seats, How difficult is it to convert a passenger seat using the drivers electrics I know someone on here has done it, just wondered what degree of difficulty and has anyone done a 'how to'?

Featured Replies

i did it

right firstly i had an original series 2 electric passenger seat without subframe. i used a drivers subframe to fit it into the car so i dont see why you could not use a drivers seat.

there are a few things i had to do to get them to fit.

the main one was the subframe.....

the seatbelt clip is on the wrong side you have to grind it off carefully and using your original passenger side subframe grind that one off keeping as much of the original bracket as possible. (just cut the welds )

get that welded onto your new subframe (drivers)

secondly is the switches. you have to take them apart and move the internals about to give you a true forward backwards movement (as the switch will now be located on the left side of the seat apposed to its original position.

at this point you may wish to get rid of the markings for movement as they will no longer mean anything.

thirdly is power you need to run some heavy guage wire from a good + supply and ground the seat to the chassis. make sure the supply is fused (cant remember the rating now but check your fuse box) i suggest you run the cable in conjunction with the original seat supply.

thats all i can think of for now

All you want is LHD drivers seat LOL

Not such a silly idea contact Nend for a continental breaker

TAKE THE SEAT OFF FIRST!!!! :headvswal oh and after welding make sure you paint it a nice gloss black.

right here ya go ahhem

there is one drawback to the conversion, you will be left with a hole in the side facing the door where the manual adjuster was, this hasnt really bothered me, so heres how you do it.

1) seperate the upper and lower sections of both seats, ( I will assume you know how to retrim a seat, if not look in FAQ or i will be here till next week)

2) starting with the upper half you need to strip both down totaly so no material or foam is left on them

3) as you can see on the passenger seat you have 2 release catches for the seat (to put seat forward) on the drivers seat you have one, you will need to cut the missing one arm off and attatch on the electric seat frame, i used a drill and a couple of screws, as I couldnt be bothered to get the welder out lol

4)then you will need to put the foam and material back on your new modified frame, you need to use a sharp knife to make some slights in the side to alow for the lumba support knob and the seat release mech, thats about it for the top half.

5) once again you will need to remove the material from both lower halfs of the seat.

6)right now it gets tricky, you will need to grind, drill, pry off the brackets off the right side of the electric seats(brackets for electrinc knobs) and then drill some holes or weld them in the same place on the other side

7)there will also be a trim bracket that needs to moved to the other side as well just where the hinge is, I just cut it off and have left it off at the mo.

8)now the main problem with the electic base is the clips for the material is the other way round, I really couldnt be bothered to remove them and change them over, so i left them as they are and have had no problems yet, but thats up to you you could drill/grind them off and refit on other side to make it a spot on build.

9) you will need to grind the existing seatbelt of the electic seat and disgard, then you will need to carefully grind the weld off the old passenger seat, and reweld them acordingly on your new seat

10) do a bit of easy wiring and your done one electric seat, however your controls will be the wrong way round, but you could desolder the wires and swop around, I havent done this yet due to crappy weather

All in all this took me 2 days to get done and am very happy with the job, and im very sorry I got no pics, I can provide a pic of the end result if need be tho

cheers

fook me thats a long way round!!

it would be sooo much easier to just use an electric drivers seat then you dont get any holes anywhere! and you just have to modify the subframe.

thats what I thought, but then you cant get to the lumba suport as it will be on the wrong side and hit the center consol

I cant use the electric drivers seat, the mod will have to come off the drivers seat and go on the passenger seat as they are completely different colours, and the old drivers seat (the one im going to use the controls off) is cracked and would you believe covered in mould
