If you wanted to accelerate as fast as possibe in an automatic car do you just put it in drive and put pedal to the metal?

Also how fast is the gear change on an auto zed?

Just wondering as in my search for a new car I may have to get an automatic (since its american) and since I've never driven one I feel I may have been shunning them unfairly.

Turning overdrive off helps depending on situation. It will go into Power mode when you put foot down, but for best overtaking you can put in power mode first.

A proper working Auto gearbox will change quicker than you can in a Manual.

when my Z was an auto, I had an HKS ALC-2 installed which made the shift-ups amazing! fantastic bit of kit, although i still blame it for making my autobox go boom. at least that was my excuse to go manual

Thanks for that. I was watching the dukes of hazzard the other day and the general lee was an auto and (although I know the film is hardly a realistic dramatisation of true events in the southern states) thought well it can't be all bad. I suppose the least I can do is test drive some auto cars.

what are you after next??

ooh I'm not sure I'd like to say. Its a car that at first I thought was quite ugly but the more I look at it the more I love it....

Chevrolet Camaro Lt1 or Ls1

I want them for the engine though really ;)

And can you stall an auto?

And can you stall an auto?

no, but obviously it can cut out if theres a problem. after my dump valves had actuated, my auto would stall unless i kept the revs up. never did find out what the problem was. obviously no problem with manual.

right I thought that would be the case. So if your idle revs are set too high does the car creep forwards when your foot isn't on the pedal?

There you go:

attachment.php?attachmentid=30538&stc=1

The Lt1 which ran from 93-97 and the Ls1 on the right which ended in 2002. Lt1 and Ls1 are engine codes though dunno what the chassis codes are. Just called 4th generation I think.

5.7 litre v8 engine

To be fair they're very similar cars though

a little, but autos only tend to start moving when you give them a bit of gas

nah..what you want is to put a Nissan Vh45de (4.5i V8) engine in a Zed instead. A Much better engine than the camero's, in a much better car ;)
