I bought a 1gb mp3 player off eBay last week but I don't know how to copy music onto it.

I've got lots of my CD's copied to iTune on my laptop. Can I copy them to the mp3 and, if so, how do I do it? I've tried just copying one as a file using explorer but, although the file shows as being on the mp3 I can't play the music!

I know I'm a dumbo but can anybody help.

Cheers - Dave

did you get any software with it? if you didnt , it should just be a drag and drop operation... what brand is it?

Hi - Yes, I've got a mini-cd with the mp3 (which is un-branded) and it has 'easy cd ripper' on it. I have installed this and looked at its 'help' facility and it appears that I can use it to load cd's onto my laptop in several formats, including mp3 format. But it doesn't say how to transfer from laptop to mp3 player.

As I have already copied lot's of tracks from cd's into iTunes on my laptop, shouldn't I be able to copy these onto the mp3 player? I have tried one track using 'drag and drop' but, whilst the file name appears on the mp3 directory I cannot find a way to play it. Can you help?

does the cd ripper have a 'Library' facility? (like Media player)

with the software on mine I have to select tracks from the library and click on a transfer

button to get them onto the player.

No, can't find a 'library' facility on cd ripper.

I'm thinking of chucking the bloody thing in the bin. Doesn't anything come with proper instructions any more. There must be millions of mp3's in use in this country whose owners have managed to get theirs to play music. Why the hell is mine so difficult?

Not an expert by any means but is the file you tried an actual MP3.

Don't but I bet itunes files aren't.

Creat an MP3 and try again.

You should be able to creat an MP3 with the software they sent you.

Usually these things just act like another drive on your PC which is why you can drag and drop the file. This dosen't mean you can play it.

Good luck

You're right, the iTune files are mp4-audio files. The 'easy cd ripper' software provided with the mp3 player doesn't appear to have the facility to convert these to mp3 files. What now?

When you plug it into your pc - can you find the name of the device in the hardware list - It may help you determine a web site for it.......You may find the file formats arnt MP3 then and its some other format - try some WAV files - Sony MP3 players for instance need files in ATRAC format only.....

Maybe the files need to go into a specific directory to play them.....

When plugged into my laptop, the mp3 player is listed as 'removeable disk'.

Listed under this are two files, 'butterfly' and 'butterfly.Irc' (this is a demonstration song provided on the player, presumably by the manufacturer, and it works ok).

I have clicked and dragged an Eva Cassidy song from iTunes on my laptop to the mp3 player and it now shows on the laptop as being listed along with the 'butterfly' files. The 'butterfly' file states it is type 'MPEG Layer 3 Audio' and the Eva Cassidy song type 'MPEG-4 Audio File'. I am unable to bring the Eva Cassidy title to the lcd screen on the player although the 'butterfly' song title shows (and then plays)

The mp3 player does NOT play the Eva Cassidy song, only the 'Butterfly' song!!!!!!!!!!

Any help?

iTunes songs only work with iPods, something I found out the hard way, something to do with encrption or something.

SOLVED AT LAST! - I have at last solved the problem of transferring songs from iTunes on my laptop to the unbranded MP3 I bought off eBay a few weeks ago!!!!

I looked through the manuals for both iTunes and the MP3 and found that they are both able to work with 'MP3' format files. My iTune music had been automatically saved in AAC format but there is a facility on iTunes under 'advanced' to convert the file formats to 'MP3'.

I used this facility to convert ALL my iTune songs and........Hey Presto..........they all transferred successfully to the MP3 player simply using 'drag&drop' via the USB cable.

So problem solved. I hope this might help others who have similar problems.

Cheers - Dave
