Hi, I have an AMD 3000+ 1 gig ram, Radeon 9800 pro, etc etc. All fine until a few weeks ago.

Now, when using MS Word ONLY, PC switches off. You have to switch it off at the back for a few seconds and then its OK..

Heavy game play is fine, internet fine. It only does it with word, re enstaled Word, and its the same.

Any ideas?

What he said. Sounds like a virus or something. Make sure you have up to date virus protection, also a firewall is good. Especially if you haven't bought a router to replace the usb broadband modem thing the ISP gives out free.

Done a full AVG virus scan, took well over an hour, result. All clear. Also, did three scans for other bad stuff, all clear.

Any more ideas?

do a search on google to find out where words keeps it macros files and delete them. After that do a complete reinstall of office and that should wipe the sod out :D

Have you run a scan disc? It is possible some of the data is currupt. Even when you uninstall a program it does not remove all the files. It keeps many drivers and DLLs and settings files.
