afternoon all

i was wondering if any one knows who currently owns the fastest Zed in Britain...?

im interested in quarter mile times, not top speeds.

do you think its some one from this forum or from another Zed related club?

I know Mac1(  ) has an impressive machine, but i know there are other projects going on behind closed doors that are less well publicised... :)

by the Z clubs records,

is Gavin Balmer with a 11.387@121.7mph(slicks) held since 2005

road tyres is

Richard Newton(Chunk) with a 13.044@108mph held since 2005.

i think these times will be beaten this year though ;)

Paul.

;)

going for the Z club title are we? ;)

we may even have the Pentroof car to play with too,it's going to be an interesting year for Zeds

may the best man win :smash:

Paul.

having never been down a 1/4 before, i have no idea ...should be a giggle though :D

from what i've been told our 1/4 up here is totally different so i think were both possibly going to end up crossing the line backwards :x:

Paul.

i was waiting for that to pop up :)

theres also the guy who bought my 18g turbo kit who will be built and ready soom, also jaffa should be there soon, my engine, turbo kit (20g's) etc are going in a car and as Paul said the Pentroof car may be on its way as well but tbh its more a track car but i'm sure it wouldnt be embarrased on the 1/4 mile :)

i know we are a good 3-4 years behind people but looks like we are getting there slowly but surely and if someone does not get into the 10's this year i will be very upset  potencial is there just experience which lets up down

Mike,

you have been around the skyline and supra board for a while too,in you honest opinion are 10's do able on road tyres?

i'm pretty confident i'll hit 11's on road tyres but would think it would be full throttle from the start line to get 10's?

Well theres quite a few supras in the 10's which are not running anything special? all running decent power etc but i think as long as you tick all the right box's ie right suspension, right clutch, right tyres (nittos etc) right power (500++) right technique which in all honesty is possibly the most important!! then i cant see why a zed cant get into the 10's

Theres 2 or 3 zeds running in the 9's in the US and none of them are stripped out drag cars, just running decent power and thats pretty much it and theres a few running medium power ie under 400 rwhp that can run in the 11's on street tyres so i really cant see why not as long as its a decent track like york or shakespear ie properly preppared and glued :)

If you look as greg duprees 9 sec run he is running an auto so no mental launch for him!! just keeping it smooth

http://z32racing.com/

on the left hand side is a list of the fastest zeds, its not really upto date and if you click on some of the links some have gone faster but check out "cpark"s engine spec ;)

just goes to show that with a great launch on the right tyres and yes maybe a little nos LOL great times are possible :)

Maybe they use a road legal soft compound competition tyre?

10 seconds is pretty quick!

the main problem i have is,

i live up here and to drive to Santa pod etc is like 6hours of motorway,i dont have a "support vehicle" so it would mean running semi slicks all the way there and back, which i thought "no bother" but speaking to Slickpete he reckons they are no good for sitting at 70mph for extended trips as they will overheat, and if theres any kind of dampness etc it's going to be interesting to say the least.

so as far as i'm aware i'm limited to running Falken 452's etc,and in my honest opinion,a car entering ten of the best etc on slicks is not a road car despite having an mot etc,

my idea of a road car is a car that drives to an event under it's own power and drives home(hopefully, lol) under it's own power.

if i was to run slicks or Nitto's then to me i see no difference between that and me stripping the car to a shell with a seat and using nos aswell.

maybe i have the wrong concept on the whole "road car" thing,

not a go at anyone,i just dont want to conform:tongue:

feck me - i was only hoping to get in the 12's

i might be wrong but i cant see any zeds round here in the 10's - a saw that gold supra at the pod run a 10 something and that was a dedicated drag car.

regards,

alex

im hoping for a good run this year gotta beat my personal best of 14.75 ive chucked a load more bits on it and have a bigger shot of nos this time

the gold CRD supra is now nearly in the 8's ;) with the development of sticky road legal tyres etc the times are coming down massivly as i said with the right setup and a good driver there is no reason why its no possible to get into the 10's!! remember jaffa did a 12.6 with a fairly stock zed with decent rubber etc so you stick another 300bhp on top of that and its gonna bring the time down ;)

the other main thing is weight and thats where paul is gonna have a massive advantage, the problem with the likes of MAC and you (alex) is weight, you both have 2+2 targa cars with big bodyits etc which look stunning but from a dragging point of view does nothing for the aerodynamics and adds alot of weight where as paul is going to be running similar power to you in a SWB slicktop and possible semi stripped out so your looking at a good 3-400 kg's lighter which is massive.

Mike

yep and unlike mac i am going to be cruising down the 1/4 mile in the nice cool of my air conditioning

regards,

alex

you dont need me to tell you how much the air con saps power and does nothing for the over heating of a zed so be affraid, be very affraid if your gonna race it!

may be worth removing the air con rad and fan if your gonna race it and you can always put it back when your finished?

Mike

nope i'm, going to pootle down the track with my pipe and slippers listening to radio 4

I believe J.D might be tempted to do the quarter in his stripped out, V8 shorty once finished which should be interesting. I'll be giving it a go myself for sh1ts and giggles but not expecting much with all the weight! :)

i'll see your v8 and raise you one air con compressor and 4 x 100mm wheel spacers

run 124 = 12.767

run 139 = 12.860

run 497 = 12.890

times are still up on web site see link above

or maybe you have to be south of the border to qualify

and this year those times are going to tumble as the shed is a lot quicker this time round (or i will eat my underpants on the start line at crail oin the last meet of the year)

Hi Ed,the only reason i didnt include yours as the Z club put cars with nos in with Slicks,Chunks time is for the Standard Z32 class,

what are you aiming for this season?

Paul.

Paul.

Did not have the slicks on that event had plenty nos though

Dont know what times i'll get this year there is so much that can go wrong on the day, the diff ratio i have this year is an unknown factor i just know the car is faster the auto engine seems to pull a lot stronger hooked up with the lightweight flywheel and manual trans, the dta chip from eric seems to like it better than the manual engine (but i'll make sure i have some flavored pants ready foir the end of season)

it seems hard and a shed loads of cash to get a zed to do good times down the strip, a stock zeds 1/4 is 14 secs but to even get in to 12's is mad. out of intrest does anyone have perormance figs of LWB VS SWB
