my mate at work has got some prob with his laptop and needs help, it's a dell and running xp on it.

 

when trying to play cd's / dvd's they seem to stutter all the time.

 

tried to play them on media player and itunes and it still does it.

 

the only thing i've done recently is install office xp ,nero and dvd shrink

 

anyone got any ideas as to what could cause it, it's like trying to play a cd when itunes is importing it at the same time.

What's the spec of the laptop? Is it quite a new one?

it's about 6weeks old, dell inspiron laptop core duo, 1gig ram

Why not give Dell a ring and ask them?

Check the buffer on the dvd drive, and make sure the digital option is selected for music. I can't remember exactly how you do it, i think you right click the dvd drive and check the properties.

 

Damn me working on a mac for a year i've forgotten everything to do with windows lol

looked at that and all set to max and digital

Control Panel >> System >> Hardware >> Device Manager >> DVD/CD Rom Drives >> right click, Properties >> Properties, then it's the tick box toward the bottom of window. Un-tick it.
