Howdy Y'all - Happy New Year.

I'm looking to purchase a 94 300ZX TT, in the next 2 months and the plan is to take it from a 280BHP machine to, initially a 450BHP (similar torque figure) at the rear wheels animal. I've read that the VG30DETT engine is more than capable of doing this but does need turbo upgrades as the T25's aren't that good at sustaining boost, new rods, cooling etc....

Is there a definitive list anywhere of the mods that can be done to achieve this. From reading the VG30DETT engine can cope comfortably with 600 bhp.

Has anyone done this kind of upgrading, and what are the costs going to be so that I can budget accordingly.

Also, NOS kits for Zed's, are they a good, bad or just plain stupid idea?

Thanks in advance

Regards

Paul

TBH I'm interested in the specs of the setup Ian. Those individual TBs are gonna have to be pretty big to give any larger cross sectional area than bigger twins. Saying that, if you replace the plenum in the process then it really can't be a bad thing!!!!

i'll second that - always thought ditching the plenum was the way to go

Its more to do with better air distribution and less lag than xs area on FI motors I think. On NA with big cams like mine you have to run ITB's as it'll never idle on a plenum.

Even so - 2x52mm (stock Z I think) = 4247mm^2

1 x 90mm (Q45) = 6362mm2

6 x 45mm (most common aftermarket) = 9542mm^2

Got 8 x 48mm on mine = 14,476mm^2 (see pic)

All the drawings are done and that nasty bottle neck of a plen is going in the bin mate,I asked for a copy to be sent up last week I will let you have a gander as soon as I get it.

The only picture I have of a vg30det modded plen is this one I am told it has made a massive differance

Yes

Alex, I can put you in touch with the guy that's making mine. Works out surprisingly cheap. Also, you could do full length runners for very little extra cost, that one looks like a cut & shut of a standard plenum using the stock lower? Gets away from having to use sidefeeds then too so saves ££££ on injectors. Have designed it with Jenvey flange pattern too so gaskets / trumpets etc easily available.

any chance we could get one?

We or you? yes to both

I thought you were selling up? :slap:

A plan with no drawbacks...I like it...

Will be scouring the auction houses in the land of the rising sun tomorrow at Hyeline, to see what about....wish me luck...have approx 5.5K to buy the car...but may go a little further if I can get an already fettled with Z32 from a reputable Jap tuner. Wish me luck.

i think you need to read the thread again and some others on the board. Andy's figures were a minimum, doesn't include suspension, brakes, or alloys/tires, gauges, maintenance etc

I think if you are serious you should set aside 10k-15k on top of the purchase price of the car

James, how are you getting on with the Nitrons? You spoken to Pete again yet about the top mounts and clevis measurements?
