the guy has finished it now and is taking it to goodwood this year

whats he calling it "Thomas"?

:the tank engine?

650hp from 27 litres, what a crock. Bet it aint even that fast with that boat anchor in the front. Probably has so much torque it will be a wheelspin-fest too.

i bet it will be one to watch down at the pod if he does what he says he going to do with it though as he says he wants to turbo it now or so it says in the mag anyways

meh, just a crappy old rover with a silly tank engine in. PPC's Rolls Royce is waaaaaaaaaay cooler

i aint seen that one

interesting project though. i sold a Rover 2300 SD1 about 2/3 months ago to someone who likes tinkering with cars, but this isnt him.

some of the other projects they have on there are quite interesting aswell

With the price of petrol nowadays , the guys mad :x:

Interesting project though :hyper:

that engine did save the world tho, the merlin engine was in everything we had pretty much - cant beat that can you, saving the world and all!

The one in the rolls was in the 80s wasnt it clarkey? And didnt they use a chassis from a bus? But it did like 200mph or something silly.

ha it still flew even though the engine lost its wings then lol

All been done before back in the 70s by John Dodd in a Rolls Royce using the same tank motor:smash:

as any old git will tell ya :D

The guy should have used the 27 ltr motor from a Spitfire, its got a lot more power :mac1:

my god seeing the beast again brings a tear to the eyes. I remember seeing it on the custom scene in the early eighties . It looks big in the photos but in the flesh it was immense

cheers matey

I thought john dodd did build the car(s) around the Spitfire Merlin v12 engine, minus the super charger? with a custom built auto, but couldnt ever use full power without blowing the box

It was first built into a capri but blew up then the engine was put into a reliant scimitar. Think rolls royce took him to court because he used the rolls royce grill. I remember seeing it at a car show in Southend at the Aircraft museum that aint no more, i see it in its yellow scimitar guise

Maybe your right, I thought JDs engine was the one used in tanks and not the more poweful 27 ltr Spitfire lump. 72 was a long time ago  but I do remember RR taking him to court,, think the cars in spain now.

Last I heard was it was on the costas somewhere and Im almost sure it was the Spitfire Merlin engine
