Is it possible to get any software to do this? I just bought the new Planet Earth box set for my mum's xmas pressie, and would like to take a copy of it?

I tried to copy the files off the DVD to my HDD then from there back to a blank DVD, but no joy.

Is it possible?

The best software you can get hold of is DVDFab

It gets rid of all the latest copy protection, it also allows you to skip past the crap stuff at the beginning of DVD's.

There is a trial version on the link, so you can evaluate the FULL version for 30 days, then you can choose which version to go for. Personally I'd go for the full platnium version, it'll do everything you ever need it to do. It'll even turn a full DVD into the correct size for a PSP etc.

Well worth it and highly recommended, it really IS THE best copy software on the market.

Does DVD Shrink or DVD X Copy copy Sony Red DVD's? Do they do the latest Sony DVD's? DVDFab does ;)

Incidentally, if you buy DVDFab you will receive updates for when new anti-copy software comes out ;) automatically!

I just downloaded DVD Fab but as yet I havent used it. Will use it over the next few days and see if I am gonna convert from DVD X Copy Platinum.

Cheers John Crisp

Going to give that ago myself I think, just downloading DVDfab now :)

On another note, that Planet Earth dvd set is incredible. We watched the first dvd last night and were completely mind blown. Cant wait to watch the next four!

OK - I downloaded DVD Shrink - worked perfectly - thanks guys. heres the guide I used. http://www.videohelp.com/guides.php?howtoselect=6#6;65

You can even get better than original quality. I uncompressed the DVD then removed all the languages and trailers that I didn't want, so when I recompressed it to fit onto my DVD the ratio was better. Looks great with less digitisation/ pixelation.

Not wishing to argue, but you CANT get better than 100%, it's impossible!! It'll be as good as the original, but not better ;)

I used to use DVD Shrink all the time - but it came unstuck with Narnia - Had to use DVDFab to do that one.

I agree with you completely Dave that you can't get better than 100% which would be the original uncompressed data.

But a Disk which is running at 10% compression will be better than a disk running 30% compression.

So uncompressing a 4GB DVD disk from 30% compression to its 7GB original format then deleting 3GB of foriegn languages, subtitles and trailers to give you 4GB disk which needs none or very minor compression will always be better.
