I received some unsolicited spam from a member on Ebay last night (and three more from different persons today, exactly the same) so I thought I'd do the proper thing and report it to Ebay.....
....I've just received this e-mail as a question for an item I'm selling.
The persons log-in name is .... ********
I, obviously, understand that it is spam and will not reply to this type
of junk, but thought I'd report the matter to yourselves. Saying all
that I don't expect anything more than a standard pre-worded e-mail back
from you, and I don't expect you'll do anyhting about it either! But at
least I've done my bit!
Regards,
Dave Harrison
Well this is the response I got back tonight .......
It starts off promising....
Hello Dave,
Thank you for writing to eBay's Customer Support. My name is Anita and I
appreciate the opportunity to assist you in regard to the unsolicited
commercial email you received from ********......
But then goes down hill rapidly (as expected  )
The email wasn't sent by eBay, and is not endorsed by eBay in any way.
It was sent by a third party using an eBay member's account without
their permission. It's likely the unauthorised user found out the
account password using a spoof email. Unfortunately we weren't made
aware of this until after this email was sent.
Once we became aware of this unauthorised activity, we took immediate
action and we are now working to restore the account to its original
owner as soon as possible. For privacy reasons, I can't give you any
further details regarding this member's account. However, I assure you
that we are doing everything we can to ensure that eBay remains a safe
and reputable place to shop.
I strongly advise you not to respond to this email. It's likely the
sender was trying to get you to buy or sell outside of the security of
the eBay website. As you know, we strongly discourage buying and selling
between eBay users outside eBay. Off-eBay purchases are not protected by
our feedback and buyer protection programmes.
If you happen to receive unsolicited emails in your personal email
address as well, here's how to cut down on spam. Make sure you take
advantage of the junk email filters in your email program to eliminate
unwanted emails from your inbox.
Again Dave, thank you for helping us to keep eBay a safe and reputable
place to buy and sell.
Kind regards,
Anita Bryant
