Just got the rear subframe in today after weeks of getting it sorted out and waiting until I had the money for the bits, and then poor weather and haveing to work, you all know how it goes.

Anyway here are a couple of pics

nicely done, one of the best improvements is to tighten up the rear, nowt worse than a floaty, wobbly rear, no sexual comments ment there :smash:

looks amazing  was it a hard job taking the subframe off ?? whats the procedure of taking it off ?? cheers.

Thanks but looking at the pics I think I need to paint the fuel tank as well.

It isn't too hard to take out as I did it as one unit, I think there is a write up with pictures somewhere, the hardest part is working on the floor cos I'm an old fart nowadays :D

like you say its not difficult although on your own its awkward with a jack and a good balance to get it up in to position :smash:

I didn't use a jack I didn't want to scratch the paint.

What I did was got my boy and his mate to place it on my chest when I was lying under the car and pussed it up like a bench press  and then they put the nuts on the mounts so it didn't drop down again.

What have you used under your car and on the subframe? Some type of underseal and then spray painted it? Planning on completely cleaning up the underside of mine when i drop the subframe this month, just wondered what you used. Thanks.

I'm considering doing pre-poly bushed subframes, powder coated and already fitted with bushes - reckon there'd be much interest?

I used Hamerite stonechip to cover the bodywork and then sprayed on smoothrite, two cans of each did the job with some left over. The stone chip was put on with a shutz gun and went on realy well, I used white so the paint would be ok on top.

The subframe is smoothrite but on top of red lead primer, wich it didn't like, I dont think it needed primer but then after blasting I had to get something on it to stop the rust before the colour went on.

I thought of doing that until doing the job myself, so I reckon if you can put up with all the hard work of getting the old bush's out, then go for it I would have bought one off you.

Nice bit of work mr scrawni  wish i had the time to sort mine out before the winter. Ahh well another job to add to the list.... :)

Get back in the mini and start sorting it out ready for next year, myself I intend on doing lots of miles in it next year.

Where did you get your subframe blasted, and how much did you pay, if you dont mind me asking?
