Just bought a turbo timer and gonna install it, doesn't seem too difficult just plug into the harness and earth out on body, however my turbo timer has a wire to connect to the hand brake and it recommends for safety. Has anyone experienced this before and is it necessary?

i dont think it'll stop it working if you dont connect it. basically its for a signal from the handbrake light so that the handbrake has to be applied for it to work. i think its aimed at stopping you leaving your auto (if you have one) in drive then the car going up the road.

it is essential, if you were to leave the car still running down on the timer someone could technically drive off in your car. the cable to the handbrake cuts the ignition when the handbrake is released.

why dont you stick it on the back of a kangaroo and see if it makes skippy jump in time pete....he he. whats the weather like in perth you lucky sod

Actually depending on what brand turbo timer he has there is an extra wired which has to be wired up to the shift lock so that if the car is in drive and the handbrake is off it will cut the engine also. So it's actually one wire for the shift lock and one for the handbrake (handbrake one being the most common).

It's definitely the handbrake, not shiftlock. Good point about the importance of the handbrake connection. Can I find the handbrake wiring under the steering column, if so where is it and what colour is it?

Cant remember what colour it was but it aint that hard to slice it into the handbrake, just need to spend some time taking your center dash out!
