Replacing your top intake hose with the Hard one's from Smithy and then modifying them to take BOV'S is the best place to put them as they are closest to the throttle boddies. Other guys fit them to the bottom 2 hoses which is crap because when your throttle bodies close all that air then get's forced back through the intercoolers into the outlet pipe from the turbo before it's dumped! Makes a good noise but you may as well not have dump valves for all the good it does. When your back on the throttle all that air has to then be re-accelerated again causing Major Lag! Get your pipes from http://www.smithy-place.co.uk

Is there truth in what the man speaks? EVERY zed i have seen has them on the bottom hoses.

Yep, the best place is close to the throttle bodies. most do have them fitted there in my experience, but some do fit them in place of the stock recircs for ease of fitment.

Its not actually as big a issue as it sounds, and you wont really notice any difference in either location...but ideally on the inner hardpipes.

...but then If you wanted best for performance then you'd stick with the stock recircs ;)

Yep it is true, most people tend to fit them on the turbo hot pipe which is the outer pipe but if possible yes you should either replace the recircs or have them just before the throttles bodys

Yes, best location is as close to the throttle bodies (ie inner hard pipe).

HOWEVER, in my experience and that of several other well respected tuning companies both in the UK and US, by placing the BOVs on the inner hard pipe there is a possibility of decreased performance. By this I mean bad idling and significant hesitation. I do not know why this is the case, and it isn't the case on all cars (just to make it interesting  ) From a fitment point of view it certainly would be easier to fit BOVs to the inner hard pipes (ie much more room).

Replacing the stock recircs would be the best solution IMO.

i HAVE HAD MINE FITTED TO THE OUTSIDE PIPES FOR YEARS AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM.

its not a problem fitting them there as anywhere after the turbos are under pressure so they can go almost anywhere but technically the closer to the throttles the better :) mine are where the old recircs used to be

Mike

replacing the stock recircs, do you mean with bigger, better, new recircs?

No Danny means fitting them where teh stock recircs were fitted.

However its worth noting that you only add BOV's for the noise (or if getting into silly power figures 600+ where you reach the stock recirc limits)

Mine are sat right infront of the throttle bodies. I have no idle problems and I'd even say that it feels like it spools up a bit quicker since i fitted them there.

I also used the existing RUBBER hoses by fitting aluminium T-pieces into them.

:)

This is definately one those subjects in the world of Zeds that has never 100% been proven one way or the other.

Rule of thumb has always been as close to TB's as possible for any turbo car BUT not with our car :) look at some top brand jap companies and they do them as a kit for outer pipes, 1 or 2 for the inners, UK companies have used the inners and found problems and then reverted to the outers and hey presto, alls well. Weird stuff, but clearly in stock location if you can and if for the looks too, then the outer pipes seesm to work best :)

Carl, theres no known upgrade for the stock re-circs am aware off, besides they operate right upto some fairly high BHP without any probs..

smithy

so to sum it up what we have here is two options then.

Fit bov's in place of stock recircs or fit to outer pipe, but in either case the results will be more or less the same?

Yes and the only difference over stock that you actually notice is the.....

ok thats good as i now have some fitted to the outer pipes,

was doing some research and came across the statement which i quoted in the first post. This quote alarmed me and i wanted to check to make sure they dont cause any long term damage by being on the outer pipes.

Fitting them in any location is not a problem for me, i prefer the engine bay for show reasons, just wanted opinions. Seems that many respectible tuning companies fit them to the outer pipes no problems, and even have some problems with them on the upper pipes as smithy said.

"...bottom 2 hoses is crap because when your throttle bodies close all that air then get's forced back through the intercoolers into the outlet pipe from the turbo before it's dumped..."

"...but you may as well not have dump valves for all the good it does..."

"...When your back on the throttle all that air has to then be re-accelerated again causing Major Lag!..."

This is what led me to ask you all, and to sum up, many people have found this NOT to be a problem, including large tuning companies. So these statements dont hold water, and this is not a problem location.
