Just spoken to the dealer I'm buying from. He says the car's gone through the MoT 100% and the garage informed him that there have been Coilovers recently fitted. Would someone tell me whether or not these are beneficial.

ย

I had no idea what they were until I had a quick search on our forum and it seems from what I've read so far that they are desireable for racing (which I wont be doing) but can give a hard ride for normal road use. I don't know the manufacturer of mine yet but shouldn't they be adjustable for both height and ride?

If they are green they are probably tein. If they are teinflex they will alter ride hight and damping if they are tein hr/ha they will only alter ride height only .Ive tein flex on mine they came with the car from japan handles good but hard ride even on soft setting .If they are flex you can get an EDFC to control damping from inside the car. They could be any jdm make eg trust/hks/kei office/tomei/cusco/

If they are coilovers then yes, they will be adjustable for height, rebound and compression. With matching springs.

ย

....although a lot of people just confuse "new shocks and springs" for coilovers.

I haven't seen what colour they are but how will I know what type/model they are when I collect on Friday..........is the full name always on them?

Not all coilovers adjust damping .Some only adjust height.Yes type and model will be on the base of the coilover and if adjustable for damping they will have allen screws on the top mounting underbonnet .And on the rear they are under a plastic cover .Mine had a hole cut in this to get a allen key in to adjust mine is a swb model though.

O.K. - I picked up my new Zed yesterday and the coilovers fitted are TEIN. I have some information about them but it is in Japanese with just a word here and there in English. On the front it says:-

ย

DRIVING SPEC TYPE

CONTROL FLEX

MASTER

ย

Does that mean anything to anyone? If so, do you know if it's possible to obtain an English version of this information?

ย

Finally, there are some measurements handwritten alongside some printed measurements in a table, but as the headings are in Japanese I can't make head nor tail of them.

ย

Any information will be gratefully received - Dave

You have the Type Flex system (compatible with TEIN's EDFC electronic controller (ie the levels of damping can be adjusted in-car) See: http://www.tein.co.uk/ for more information. It's a good system, not in the same league as say Aragosta's but still very bloody good. I now have a TEIN set-up myself :)

ย

taff: Type HA's have 16 levels of adjustable damping.

yeh the flex is a superb system, its more road based so although on the softest setting its still fairly hard, its useable.

ย

worth getting the edfc as its cool ;)

Thanks for the info guys, I have looked at Tein's site and have been reading up on the EDFC (I've never even heard of it before) and it looks pretty impressive and not too expensive at ยฃ220 + vat.

ย

One thing has given me a fright, however, on the front page of the FLEX instructions it says:-

ย

THE PRODUCT MAY NOT BE INSTALLED IN VEHICLES DRIVEN ON PUBLIC ROADS

ย

What the hell's that all about??????

ย

Dave

Seriously mate, don't worry about it. There is no reason at all why you can't use this system on the high-ways and by-ways as it were :)

But do the insurance companies agree?
