Guys need your opinion i recently changed my ecu chip from a jwt to one of john dixons chip everything seems fine apart from boost seems a bit high previously with the jwt chip aftermarket gauge showed 15/16 psi weres know with jd chip same gauge is showing 20 psi which got me slightly worried as injectors,ic's,tubs are stock is there anything to worry about ?? engine seems to run smoothly perfect idle etc

I would have thought that 15-16psi was slightly too much, let alone 20! The chip shouldn't affect the level of boost you're getting, so I don't know why it would suddenly have increased.

Is it possible that you had a boost leak and tightened something up that fixed it at the same time as fitting the chip?

havnt done anything else including checking for boost leaks or tightening anything as everthing seemed ok just noticed increase on gauge :confused:will it be safe do drive as long as i keep off the boost, also would a conzult show what boost your running ??also just remembered im using 0.8mm mig tips ill change these to 1.2mm & see whether it makes any difference as long i end up with 14/15 psi max im happy, or shall i invest in a boost controller ??

No, conzult doesn't show the boost level.

I imagine that you won't do any damage as long as you stay off the boost. Does the car feel significantly quicker than before? Enough to suggest that you really are getting an extra 4psi of boost?

Tbh since ive noticed increase on gauge & wasnt able to get any optimax havnt drivin on boost at all incase i did any damage so im gonna change mig tips to bring boost down & see if it makes any difference

The mig tips are ok and to be honest 0.8mm is a bit small for most cars. 1.2 would be better. You could also get a boost controller with an in-built boost gauge (eg Blitz SBC-iD), then you can set a max level and know it won't go over.

Get a good boost controler.

ie

Apexi

Greddy

HKS

Blitz etc

ย

much safer and less to worry about.

Does the greddy profec b spec2 have a boost gauge built in ??

Yes

Yes

thanks for all your replys mate

Hi Nad, As said above, chip does not affect boost levels, but definately don't run more that 15psi on your setup.

I'd get a boost controller if I were you, it is safer and the response is much better too.

thanks for all your replys mate
No problem. I try to be helpful on those odd occasions when I know what I'm talking about. ;)

I'm currently running one of John's chips, using welding tips but with a Profec B Spec2 in the garage waiting to go on. :)

ive just bought one for ยฃ188 brandnew is that a good price ?? & will you be fitting it yourself ?

I paid ยฃ210 I think. I will be fitting it myself, yes, but I've been saying that for around 2 years now and it's still sat in my garage. ;)
