As you may know i've had a ticking noise coming from the top of the engine, someone mentioned that it could be a lifter sticking so i decided to get the engine oil changed. I brought the car to a tyre fitters that also "specialise" in minor servicing.. I provided them with a new oil filter an engine flush and 8lts of Castrol Edge 10w 60 fully synthetic oil, I told them that i wanted them to put the engine flush in and run the car for a short while to thin the oil out and then drain the engine out. I then wanted them to flush the engine out with some of the new oil to make sure that all the engine flush was gone, change the filter and fill it with fresh oil.. sounds simple enough?? My wife collected the car yesterday evening and took it for a drive. The ticking had stopped so i was happy enough. The car was out for a spin today and she now has a very loud knocking noise. I lifted the bonnet and there is oil all around the drivers side of the engine and bonnet. i have just been told by my wife that the "mechanic" said to make sure that there was enough oil in the engine as it was "very thirsty for oil and had taken the full 8 litres" !!!! What the F*** am i going to do ??? I thought the car only holds about 3.5-4 litres. Has this idiot totally wrecked my engine ?? :( Could someone move this to the advice section.. I'm that p***ed off i wasn't minding where i wrote it

Think you will find court could be your only answer here bud. Did you pay for the work via credit card? Cos if you did get the card company to fight this battle for you, and they will have a lot more clout!

Hope it all works out for you bud.

Did an oil change on my car at the weekend, got 4 litres of oil (already had the filter).

Looked at the owners manual and it says 3.0 without the filter 3.4 with.

Drained the oil, put the filter on then started to fill it up. Got to 3.4 litres looked at the dipstick and there was no oil on it, so I ran the engine looked at the dipstick (only the bottom of the dipstick had oil on it).

I looked at the manual again and it said 3.4 litres but that doesn’t include the oil cooler.

The engine ended up taking 4 litres and was spot on the dipstick.

I never trust anyone were I live with my Z so I try to do as much as I can and stick to the Nissan manual.
