Hi guys, my names Matt and I have always been fond of 300zx's. I attended JAE on the weekend and got talking to allot of ZX owners, who have turned me to the dark side.

I’m really thinking of buying 1 around December time, but wanted to sign up on this site to gain knowledge on these cars first. I want to Know what models are what and how much it costs to run, insurance, MOT and stuff like that. Stats would be good to know as well.

I will post some pictures of the models which i am interested in. If people could let me know exactly what they are it would help allot. (I will post pic’s later)

Thanks Everyone.

Matt

Hi Matt and welcome

Hi Matt, will dig out some figures later - what sort of NCB and postcode for insurance?

as for models if you check out the rides section most people have the particular model and lots of piccies to compare.

the basic decisions to make are twin turbo or non turbo, auto or manual, lwb (2+2 seats) or swb (2 seats).

you will get alot of banter about which model is best, but the important thing is to get a good condition car.

im sure by the time i get home someone will have posted the specs etc but in the mean time - welcome!

Hello and welcome

Yep, best to have a little look in the sale section that will give you some idea.

If you go to see a car don't be afraid to ask for someone from the club to go check it out with you.

Read up as much as possible there are links on what to look for you when checking out a Zed. Can't for the life of me think what the title is but I'm sure someone will, otherwise I have a print out I could photocopy and send to you if you want it.

Best spend as much as you are able on a good Zed, as there are plenty of bad examples out there which will disappoint and drain the old bank balance.

Remeber these cars are no longer Spring Chickerns. Having said that if they have been serviced properly by a good Zed Specialist and looked after then they won't disappoint.

All the best with your Zed hunt

After hearing all the bad things i see on here it might be worth having an independant inspection carried out on a z once you have narrowed down your search.

At the very least on top of the usual checks I would now have a comp test done on a Z before I bought one.

told you you'd get some banter about whats best!

insurance for me last year - age 23, 2 years ncb, off road, good postcode, £860.

got 3 points halfway through, and it put it up £120.

Hi Matt and welcome to our world! :smash:

Just wanted to share with you my thoughts. I first had an N/A but then moved onto my Twin Turbo  for the only reason that i'm a greedy bugger and wanted more power! :hyper:  Both cars are fantastic but some will tell you the N/A's are more reliable, however i've had no major problems as yet with my TT. (Touch wood :smash: ) It's all down to personal preference at the end of the day oh yeah and the TT will cost that little bit more to run

Just ask Paul R about the difference i took him out for his first spin in a TT at JAE :nana2: :hyper: Lets just say his face was a bit like this :D :D

(Hope you enjoyed it Paul i'm still buzzing from the look on your face.)

Just remember to take your time when shopping cause there's alot of sheds out there. Welcome once again, look forward to meeting you and seeing your buy at one of the shows next year.

Welcome mate, this place can get a bit mental at times but al a good bunch of lads and lasses here. If you want to know anything remember the search button at the top first and if you cant find what your looking for just ask and there are always people here who can help you.

And again, welcome to the club!

Nick.

Hiya matey, stick to an NA. As much as i love the power of my TT i've had no end of problems with mine since i bought it 6 weeks ago whereas my NA was bomb proof

first thing to remember if its not black then it will be no good :x:

damn right.... black Zeds are faster... its scientific fact and you can't argue with science.... i know a nice one for sale....

Basicly im looking for a manual TT with the re-moveable roof.

I like the shape of these models...

id like to know what the models are called, the years of the xz's which are above. I have looked on another website and noticed there are a UK, US & Jap model, differencing on the lights, side repeters and bumbers ect as well as auto and manual.

But all im looking for is a manual TT with the re-moveable roof which falls into the shape of the above models. (the more recent age the better)

so if someone could point me right direction of what car im looking for i would really appreachate it. And whats the mpg of these beasts???

Thanks. matt :duffer:

Ps. im 22 in december and also want to know a good insurance company, confused.com are quoting me 2300 at the mo if i had a tt zx. :headvswal

hello matey welcome aboard

you want the Targa Roof well your ok then youll be struggling to find one without!! recent age not necessarily mean anyhting my 1990 twin turbo jap import fairlady model had only got 70k on clock, much less than some later models and i have not had one breakdown or non starting problem with her in the 13 months i had her!!

there are so many 5hitters out there best not too be to choosy on age and spec and to just get the best specimen you can find imho.

oh yeah get ready for the insurance stinger at 22 im surprised they will go near you tbh!! good luck hun

try elephant or tesco mate. bought mine at 21, started off paying approx £1200 with 1 yrs ncb in a 'b' cat postcode (elephant).

Then went to tesco when i got some alloys (elephant do not do like for like replacements on mods) went up to approx £1800 (with the wheels valued at £3.5k).

By the time it went off the road id got it down to approx £820 back with elephant again, 23 yrs old, 3 years ncb 3 points cat 'b' postcode.

regarding the cars above, depends what in particular you like about them? targa tops are by far the more common type of roof so no problem there.

the top one is standard looking, the main differences you'll see are peoples various mods. if its things like the rear lights etc - they're not standard but can be bought from zcentre

as fairlady says, worry more about the quality of the car you're buying as apposed to spec

hth

Hiya matey, the main thing to look for is the engine/turbos and gearbox, they're the most expensive parts of the car so if you get a duffer you'll lose 1500 on replacing the engine and about 1500 rebuilding an autobox although manuals are cheaper.

Suspension parts are cheap but the subframes need to be dropped to fit them so it's a costly exercise.

If you want a good one, best to buy from the for sale section here rather than look for an ebay special. You may get a good one, you may not but at least we know the cars and the people who own them so all you have to do is ask.

All the best bud and i'm sure we'll be seeing you soon at the meets :)

Cheers,

Nick

Of the four pics Matt showed, only the first one looked standard though.

The others have had a lot of work done to them.

Regardless of the model year, Z32's all look basically the same, until modded.

The only real difference being the SWB.
