auto box problem

After driving home the other day when temperatures were hot pulled onto drive put auto box into park and it started beeping as if it was in reverse. After putting in reverse it fails to beep now and the box keeps dropping down instead of up even when revs are fairly low and does not seem to recognise overdrive. Other than that it seems fine so was wondering if maby blown some sensor in hot weather or something. Any ideas chaps will be much appreciated.
