Clifford alarm mate.... go to Sextons (near the northan bridge!!) they did mine... TOP JOB!

I fitted Cat 1 to motorbikes for a year.

I found Meta to be best as they didn't go wrong.

I've had one on my car for nearly three years with no problems.

I'd go for relaibility over 'bells and whistles' any day. If an alarm starts going wrong, it's a nightmare.

I've had a couple of Cliffords now and until today I have never heard anything good about them.

Whatever you do, make sure it is Thatcham approved. my current "bells and whistles" Clifford isn't even thatcham approved. I have had to fork out another £150 for an immobiliser, just to keep the insurance happy!

ohh ok.. mine is a cat 1 thatcham approved blah blah clifford alarm... so far touch wood... no problems!

The problem here isnt the alarms ... a lot has to do with instalation .. ive fitted must be over 500 clifford alarms and very rare is it they get a problem thats due to manufacturing .. but on a whole the most common one's i fit are Cobra & Meta which you can pay anything between £250-£300 fitted .. i no longer fit alarms as i do not have the time these days .. but hope this has helped you

I'm getting a clifford Viper fitted by Gap Security on Thursday, do you know if they're any good?

sextons did mine for about 650 ... with imobilizer, turbo timer the works!! chuffed like a pig in sh it with it..

SIGMA S30 CAT 1 (made by TOAD) , ultra reliable, upto date design with a tiny but loud Li ion battery back up siren and they have to be set up by a hand held programmer after install (similar to cliffords). BMW and SUBARU used to use sigma as there factory fits

totally agree with zx mad - its all about the installer - and sorry to say, but iv heard nothing good about gap at all. a couple of friends have had gap fitted cliffords and had endless problems, whereas the same guy that fitted my toad has done some cliffords for other mates and theyv been perfect!

oh yeah, i had a toad ai606, very impressed

Be very wary with Gap, might be lucky and get a decent fitter but getting them out again if you have a problem can be a nightmare. Personally i fit Toad and never have a problem. Done shed loads of Z`s on here aswell and as far as i know no one has had a problem with them.

Ok, thanks for that.

I have done a little research and I am interested in the Clifford Viper, as it contacts you if the alarm goes off which is good for me as my garage is round the back of my house, but Toad seem interesting too. Will need to investigate further.

I have to back up what everyone else has been saying, I have a Clifford alarm and it has not played me up at all in the 3 years since it was fitted, but I made sure I found someone that was a competent fitter and they had the car 2 days to do the job properly.

META gets my vote too Simon - they are reliable and rugged.

Fitted as standard to TVRs, which invariably suffer with under bonnet heat build-up and water ingress, they take the punishment.

Talk to my mate Carl Baker at CBI [07720] 723407 (..."There's no one beta than Mr META!"). He's half an hour away from you on the A272 near Petersfield and he will be able to advise you.

He's a really great guy and does a proper job for sensible money.

Mention my name.

Pete
