is the amb temp directly related to how the heater or a/c works and distributes heat?

Help appreciated.

If amb.temp is -89 mate the sensor behind the bumper is either disconnected or fooked!-shouldn't affect A/C tho'.

if the sensor is knacked though, does this mean that the heaters dont know where to blow, ie: if the temp is -89 then the blower will constantly blowing on the windscreen trying to de-mist.

normally if the bumper has been off,or someones removed the airbox/cooler etc, normally the ambient sensor has been disturbed,or as^^^^

thanks for that. does the amb temp sensor reading affect how the a/c or heater works? are they connected? does the car know how cold it is outside so when the a/c is on auto it adjusts accordingly?
