The other half wants a WRX

Who am i to argue with the will of the little woman?!

Just wandering if any of you guys have any knowledge of these cars.

From what i understand there's the Turbo2000 and WRX and STI.

ITurbo2000 is around 200bhp while the WRX and STI's are upwards of 260 with one being a JDM and the other being UK spec...? correct me if i'm wrong.

Looks like a lot of crooked traders trying to palm-off tub2000's as WRX/STi.

Does anyone know how to tell the difference?

that would work if you'd already driven one before, and i did have a little drive of a WRX wagon about 5 years ago but i wouldn't be able to remember for comparison. these little 4cyl turbo rolerscates all feel pretty quick to me... there must be something i can look for...? a letter in the VIN or something under the bonnet...?

log book will tell you the model

there is quite a big scooby forum, scoobynet or something isn't it - look on there

UK models - Turbo 2000 (220 BHP), the only model available UK spec in classic shape. These go up to about X reg when they released the Bug Eye, that is available in several forms both NA and Turbo. The turbo models are either WRX (220 BHP) or STi (276 BHP)

Most people reckon the STi are too harsh a ride for everyday use and so it iis worth looking for a Turbo 2000 or WRX with PPP (Prodrive Performance Pack) this up BHP to 250-260. This upgrade would cost you about £1800 at Subaru so worth looking for.

Import wise there are many special editions however they are all renowned for requiring engine rebuilds ie Type RA, 555, P1 (not sure if they are available UK spec)

I don't know very much about imports.

The only scooby worth going for is the STI Type R in my opinion. But you're looking at £7k + for a good one.

WRX and Turbo 2000's start from £3k+ plus, but its like going for the Skyline GTS rather than the GTR. Why go for second best?

Yes, you can get a UK spec P1 as my brother in law had one.

I looked at them years ago when I bought my zed. The import WRX models at the time came in 240 or 260bhp versions, I think depending on the year. As far as I remember, there were also STi versions, but I can't remember the differences. Lower gearing springs to mind though.

Why go for second best?

2 reasons, my friend...

1. My multi-million pound empire has fallen on hard times

...and

2. It's for my Mrs, and i don't want her having a faster car than me!

:)

I cant argue with that. lol. I did think about getting a STI Type R myself originally or an Evo but couldnt afford it. Evo's are great cars too. Evo 2's are the best of the early Evo's IMO. Ideally though the Evo 6 and above!

An Evo 2 would cost £4k ish.

However, a Subaru Turbo 2000 is probably less likely to be thrashed and they are not that old. I think a 1998 P reg would only set you back around £4k, which is good going.

My sister had an Evo2 - bloody awesome it was!!! Her ex boyfriend of the time put a boost tap on it and whacked it up to 2bar: The diff bearing imploded!! Dick!

Anyway The only fault with the Evo1,2&3 is it shares most of its body components including it's shell with the Proton Persona :xxx: The Mrs would never be seen in it (shallow, i know!)

4k is the what we have to spend, (be nice to have a little to spare).

So is it Turbo2000 for UKDM and WRX for JDM and is it that common to have to rebuild the engine on JDM's?

I had heard that the early Evo shells were sold to Proton, but didnt know if it were actually true.

This is a really good Subaru resource, hopefully it will be some use to you :)

Excellent reading. All questions now answered. If they weren't so dan common I'd fancy one myself!

They're great for driving really fast down a twisty road but not much else.

And drive really fast down twisty roads all the time and something bad will probably happen.

we got a wrx and an STI to be honest peformance wise the STI is the one to go for but obviously will be more coin. Will say though they are hideous things to drive and feel really cheaply put together i honestly really dislike driving it although the STI has really good performance and bottom end. Its him indoors thats scooby mad!!

Lancia Delta Integrale EVOII 16V is the boy you want to go for if you wana go fast round corners. But rem there all left hand drive and you have to take the engine out to do anything to it e.g Timing belt or water pump infact taking the oil filter off with the motor in place is a bloody nightmare. O and it will eat a wheel bearing every year and you will only get about 3000miles out of a set of tyres but they do make you smile when you drive it and NOTHING will have you from the lights. Part from Bikes of course :)

You'd be lucky to find a good Evo now.

They're all fooked - unless you get a £10K minter.

To be honest most people would be as quick down a twisty lane in a new Clio 182.

Evos were quick of the lights though - a Sunny GTiR might have one though?

My friend had a Clio 172 cup before he got his Evo 6.

When he first took me out in the Clio I was like "why did he buy a clio?". I soon realised. I thought it was awesome, it was so fast and was like a go kart round the bends. He could out accelerate MR2 turbos off the lights too, I was extremely impressed.

However, its not as quick as his Evo 6, but then he is running 1.6 bar boost, Apexi induction kit, kakimoto exhaust with maxnex decat, £2.5k motec ECU with anti-lag and a twin plate clutch.

evo's over scobbies all day long mate , Scoobies at that price braket seem to blow up all day long !! You can get some excellent evo 2-3's cheap from the evo owners club at http://www.lancerregister.com with good history. And u will be amazed at the performance !! Mine left 2 scoobies that were racing each other behind and they were gutted.
