I recently found a 1991 nissan 300zx twin turbo, the car has 137k miles on it, almost 138. I have $10,000 to spend on the car and repairs and such, to get it on the road and insurance payment the first month, tags also. He is asking 8,000 for the car..Is this a good price? I looked up prices on nadaguides.com and kelly blue book and in excellent condition the car is only worth Excellent $7,360. An older man, sounded like he was atleast 40 had the car. Ground effects, rear spoiler added, with wider tires in the back to add better grip to the road. Over all it LOOKS to be a good car, but mechanically how would it stack up? If i can talk him down to like 6,500 would it be a good deal? How much are new tt engines, or newER tt engines, transmissions etc? Could i replace the engine and tranny, and possibly turbos with 3000 bucks?

origonal turbo's will be at the end of their life at that mileage, if its an auto that will be on its last legs too, engine might be a bit tired too. You are in the states though, things are probably a lot cheaper than they are here.

Its a 5speed, the PRIVATE SALE price of the car in excellent condition is 5,600, i was looking at what a car salesman would start out with. So im going to offer him 6k for it because cosmetically everything is brand new, mechanically it has been kept up with records and such, but I want to replace the engine and tranny, turbos and little stuff that should be, think i can do all of that with around 4,000? give or take a 1,000 bucks. Oh, the car is a 5speed by the way

Hey Ice Man152 I grew up in Maryland. I would say to contact a mechanic who knows how to work on these cars and get an estimate form them on cost for doing what you want to do. Most of the guys on this forum are in the UK. For worst case senario contact Nissan and ask them for some prices on what you want to do with the car. What part of Maryland are you in.

Well, see the thing is, I'm going to do the engine and tranny work myself. I wasnt planning on sending it to a garage because around here, they are all expensive as hell, and have NOOO idea about turbos...i dont even know if they know what the function of a turbo is, like my friend says- "its pretty sad when you have to explain crank walk to a mechanic." But as for everyone being from the UK, well Im most familiar with DSM's aka awd turbo eclipse, talon, lasers but I joined this forum to get information regardless of location. So far everyone has been awesome  but as for my location, Im from garrett county maryland. Where are you located now komarme?
