Hi Guys

I have done a search but I can't find the thread I thought I saw recently regarding HICAS.

The light HICAS has just become illuminated on my dash.

Any ideas?

poss low on fliud

Yeah I know this is going to sound funny, but what fluid?

What is the HICAS and what does it do?

Spencer

The HICAS is the rear wheel steering system and the fluid is the PAS pot on the left hand side of the engine bay.

HICAS is the rear steering system and it's linked to the power steering.

Chances are your power steering fluid is low so open the big green pot on top of the drivers side wing and check the level.

If you need to top it up then its Dexron II or III type Automatic Transmission Fluid you need from any car spares place or most petrol stations.

PAS? What does that mean. Oh and what liquid do I fill it up with.

I keep loosing the back end of my car, do you think this has something to do with it?

PAS means power assisted steering ( i think im right)

also check your shocks, they may need replacing , they are just 30 each from luke at z center. also check your hicas arms for movement, jack the car up, by putting the jack head/crown under the diff and jack up rear end. then grab a rear wheel at 3 and 9 oclock positions, now try and twist left and right, if there is movement you hicas arm ball joint is worn you can get an inner tie rod for this from mike feeny at mjp auto, a trader on here.

check both sides, also check the outer bushing the tie rod bolts to make sure there is no play in that ball joint by pulling and pushing front to back. if there is then mike can supply them also. if you need more info just ask ;)

I'm sure I just answered all that above

Hi Guys

Thanks for all the advise at the weekend.

I filled my little green pot with fluid and the HICAS light has gone.

Is there any reason why the fluid level would have dropped, apart from the obvious one that I have a leak?

I had the cambelt service done recently, don't you think they would have checked it then? If so then I'm guessing I have a leak.

:headvswal

It might of been checked but if you have a leak then obviously it will be going down. Can you see any red fluid on the floor after you have parked up for a while ?

Try having your car running and turning the steering lock to lock a few times and then check underneath the car. hopefully you havent got much of a leak and its just a hose clip a bit loose on one of your pipes.

No doubt it is this kind of encouragement that keeps people at this site.

I would love to be there when you have a mental lap one day.

I dont thing there's any harm in asking these questions...if you dont know, you dont know...thats how we all learn, by asking!!!

Thats why we have this forum right!!...to help one another...

And keep on Z riding

On a more practical note, before I bought my Z, last week, I spent months as a guest on this forum just reading the new questions and the archived stuff. Even tho' most of it isn't relevant at the time, it's a great way to learn.
