[ Warning- this is just a self-indulgent moan about a minor injury I just gave myself! It's all me, me me... :) ]

I fell off my mountain bike on Saturday- not quite sure exactly what went where, but I landed heavily on my side and I think I jammed my own fore-arm under my ribcage and into a kidney! :headvswal

Rolled around for a bit, like you do. Got up, carried on riding although just watched my mate to the rest of the jumps. Then cycled to the pub for a beer. Only when I got back and went for a tinkle did I realise things were more amiss than just being winded  Got the girlfriend to drive me down to A&E.

2 ultrasound scans and a CT scan later (over 3 days), it seems I've bruised the kidney and disrupted the blood flow slightly. It'll mostly recover, but that hardly maters because did you know you can survive on 1/3 of one kidney with NO adverse affects?! Fascinating!

Till it does though, I'm on orders of bedrest for 2 weeks. Looks like I'll be browsing the forum a lot...

:wack:

If you feel like having a go at some jumps that kids have built, my advice is DON'T! lol

Aw look at it outside- blue sky just going orange, a few streaky clouds, what a great evening to be down the pub!

I've lost all hope. I'm going to do it!... I'm going to watch... Big Brother... That should make my brains explode...

i had to give up riding for 5 years beacause of an injury.

i tore the muscles at the base of my spine.... ....

....opening the garage door to get the bike out

Glad to hear its nothing major and bedrest will cure it.

I quit the quarterpipe after my mate got a hook up on his bmx and slid down on his face, open face helmet

the thing is I was getting more air than he was and it just made me stop instantly.

Where do you go riding Mark?? Was at The Look Out in Bracknell on Saturday on me bike. Great day!!

bantambunny- yeah I've done my kneecap in the past too! Exposed it rather than dislocated though.

piesoup- we go to the Lookout fairly regularly! Definitely has the best riding in the immediate area :D Our new long-ish ride takes us there and back from the Basingstoke Canal visitor centre in Ash.

And we sometimes join a bunch of chaps who ride from the lookout carpark at 9am every Saturday. Lead by a guy with a tache and glasses called paul (the guy, not his glasses)

Other than that, we mostly ride around Ash/Fleet/Farnborough (Tunnel Hill, Tweesledown, Ceaser's Camp, Yateley Heath Woods)

If you're up for a ride around my area, keep an eye on http://www.bikemagic.com under the Farnborough/Hants rides, often organised by Jay who used to own a 300 (his BM login is Jay300zx). When I'm back up on 2 wheels I'll let you know if I'm heading over to Bracknell :)

Jay- cool I see you've changed your avatar everywhere to one of the better pictures from Saturday! Yeah you took me kicking and screaming down the pub didn't you?! :slap: :duffer: lol

I can see my zed from the bathroom! It looks all shiny and wanting to be driven. The most annoying thing is that I didn't have the chance to put my new (stellaz' old) alloys on. That was gonna be Sunday's job! d'oh

Just take it easy fella, kidneys can be funny things, as I know to my cost, plenty of fluids (not probs there I can see) and rest. and under no circumstances any heavy lifting. Get well soon

Could have been! Only saw one Jack Russell on Saturday...and my bike is red/orange! :p
