Are track rod ends easy to change?

I have notices a clunk every now and then when turning hard, like into a parking space and such.

On investigation I notice the boot on the track rod end is broken and covered in dirt.

Is it hard to change them and has anyone got any ideas of how much they cost?

Is it worth doing both? The other one is fine.

Track rods ends are quite easy to change but you will need to have your tracking checked afterwards.

The track rod end will need replacing because the dust cover is split, and will fail an MOT for it. However are you sure this is causing the knock.

To check grab the bar to which the track rod end is connected, and try pushing and pulling to see if you have some free play if you do then its the track rod end causing the knock.

To change it, loosen the locking nut, but then wind it by hand back to the track rod end. this will make sure your tracking is not to far out after replacing. Now remove the nut on the end of the Ball Joint. Next you have two choices either use a ball joit spiltter or a large hammer and knock the ball joint out of the suspension leg.

Now unwind the track rod end. Copper ease the thread, and wind on new track rod end.

Now insert the ball joint into the suspension leg, and put the nut back on.

Now tighten the lock nut, and job done.

Leigh.
