Did anyone see that piece on TV last night were a TV crew were out on the streets in Scotland to ask if any Jocks will support England in the world cup.

 

Needless to say the answer was an emphatic "Nay". This is no longer a suprize to me, but what was, was the fact that The Scotts ask, seemed to believe we would not support Scotland if England had fail to qualify and Scotland had. Yet without exception every single English person I have spoken to about this agree that they would support any of the home nations if they went to the finals and we didn't.

 

Also that scrawny Scotts tennis play said he'd support anyteam England were playing because he's Scotts. So the reporter said OH! so you don't want the Engish to support you at Wimbledon then? He didn't know what to say.

 

Why is it that the English believe us all to be British and see the rivalry in the same way as that between friends. Yet the Scotts and the North Welsh seem to hate us and each other?

 

 

I'm not trying to start a war. I'm genuinley curious, but please don't quote history of 1200 to 1400 and blob, Because britain for the most part since James the first of Engand (he was James the ? of Scotland) has been run by Scott Monarks or Ploiticians. Lets Face it we got a Scott in Number 10 & 11

We called it the democratic deficit. The Tories didn't have one MP up

there, but did what they wanted. And no-one in England gave a toss.

That don't hold water Mate. I'm from Barnsley which prior to marvelous Maggie was the centre of the coal and Glass industry in Europe. The mines around Barnsley employed 37,000 amd the glass works about 15000 and 15 miles down the road in Sheffield was the centre of the Steel industry in the world. She stiched up up good and proper.

 

Nar those Southern softies were having a good time under magie. While The industrial engine of Britain, The clide/Glassgo, the Tyne/Newcastle and Sunderland. Yorkshire full stop + Lancashire were well and truley shafted.

 

Most of us though got on our bikes as she said. More English had their lives ruined by that woman than Scotts or Welsh, But we'll supported Arsenal in the Champions league and Celtic because they are British + like I said when Wales beet tha All Blacks it was time to celebrate.

 

How ever I wasn't sorry when Swansey Got Beaten by Barnsley even if they play better than us

The wife on the other hand is a big football fan. Had her season ticket for Glasgow Rangers for years, and will be watching every game she can.

Who will she be supporting ?? England !!

 

Scottish throo and throo I am, but worked in England for a few years.

East Midlands Airport with digs in Loughborough,

Stansted Airport with digs in Harlow at 1st, then Great Dunmow.

 

Always found that when I started somewhere new, most English guys treated me with a certain amount of caution. Presumably being over 6ft, and 16st, bald with a goatie beard, I looked kinda, well, maybe, grumpy ? ;)

After a few days when they sus you out and realise that you are just "normal"

I was always treated the same as everyone else.

Made some cracking mates while working down there, and still keep in touch and visit them, as well as them bringing their families up here.

 

I personally dont have any probs with English people, in fact my Father stayed in Hookwood, Horley for 20 years until he died last year.

Plenty of idiots up here that despise the English tho ! :smw:

Well I am Scots, born and bread in Glasgow, voted for Maggie (she told me to get on my bike and make a life for myself and i did) have lived in England for nearly 20yrs, hate football and find that there are tossers all over the world irrespective of creed, colour, or race.

 

The guys who genuinely say they hate the english/ scots/ irish / welsh are just bigots, they are not english bigots, scots bigots or otherwise, just low bred, low iq'd morons who love to hate. It is not physically possible to dislike a race, to dislike you have to know, and to know a complete race is impossible, so treat them as the muppets they are.

Typical English attitude of superiority, which is why they lost their empire, never invented much of any significance and most other countries hate them....

Sorry about my previous outburst but it gripes my nuts the lack of sportsmanship shown by some people.

and believe me angus i know what im talking about as im half scottish on my fathers side.

Its not about supporting another side if your national side isnt in, its the attitude of supporting any side against the english..it shows a hatred of the english and a wish to see them do poorly.

Think it would be funny to reverse it and hope that every game the scotish play in they lose , thing is I wouldnt do that because it would of been good to see all the british teams competing in the world cup and I was hoping to see the Jocks and the Taffys make it...pity the same sentiment cant be recipricated.

But we generally lose anyway, and we know it but we do not take it as seriously as the English..i.e. burning down Portugese restaurants because they beat you at footie....and believe me, there is a lot of resentment in the world as a result of the English behaviour at football matches.

 

The English - Scottish issues come from the history of English oppression and it will take a lot to get past. I agree that a lot of people in Scotland will support anyone England play but saying that we are all the same is like saying all English fans are thugs and cowards...

 

We are aware that we are sh*te at footie, don't have many major champions, but there are more people in Manchester than in the whole of Scotland, so you will see we are a very small country and we see it as a game...not a personal attack on our country.
