Even though I have been a member on here for a while, and have seen posts put up for 'somewhere events organiser - position required' type emails, I don't recall seeing an email advertising looking for moderators.

How are they chosen? Can anyone apply at anytime? are they elected like other positions? What are the requirements?

If I wanted to be a moderator, who would I have to kidnap/sleep with/kill.

What is AUP? I keep seeing that mentioned.

Who decides club policy? do we vote for that?

Does any one person have overall control?

What's the meaning of life?

Why sometimes on a Wednesday, I keep thinking it's Thursday?

Why when I walk up stairs in the dark do I forget how many steps I have and almost fall over?

Cheers, I have just gone through all the rules and regs again and it was good to go through that again, something we should all do from time to time.

I have one question/suggestion.

Why are the moderators chosen by the commitee and not elected, if everything else in the club is elected?

Not that I have any problems with any of the moderators.

Commitee are elected, an elected commitee then chose moderators.

its like goverment, goverment is elected and the civil servants are sort of picked by goverment.

All of a sudden everything becomes clear.

Do you think perhaps Mike we may look into changing that then, this question of "how" and "who" moderators are as been asked before, it does at present mean that IF some members are unhappy with a particular way a mod deals with things, then in order to change it we have to wait a long time to vote the committe out i assume ? which is like using a sledge hammer to crack a nut!

Would be good if all moderators actually had it written under their avatar and I dont see why they cant be voted in so members can choose who they are and members know who they are, the other day I wanted something done and had to pm chunk as hes was the only person I knew was a moderator. Also a couple of mods on the current list dont actually use this forum much, is it just the list needs updating or is it time to get some new blood in?

The mod list does change over time, admittedly we have some defunct ones in there now, but I think that last new one was Jason Farrow.

The mods are picked by the committee as being responsible people who are on the forum frequently, who understand the AUP and can keep an eye on things.

There is a list somewhere, although I can't put my finger on it at this particular second. I think it's more important that there are moderators, rather than who they are, although I would agree for the benefit of clarity that it would do no harm if it were clear from their avatar/sig who they were.

well im fine leaving it the way it is, choosing a mod aint never going to suit everyone, i would like to think a mod is a reasonable, long standing, well known member of this club

mods are selected by commitee, it makes sense to do it that way as they are then following the aup outlined by the commitee and not an agenda they have been voted in for

if anyone has a complaint about a mod we will deal with it, although we havnt received any yet

Hey, I love the mods - in fact, I love everyone....

Now who wants a hug?

I have no complaints about any mod but I do believe that a club like this needs to change as it grows. Look at all major companies in the UK, they are continually looking at ways to make changes to become bigger better and stronger, just because things have always been done a certain way doesnt mean its the right way for how the club is now.

Being brutally honest this club does seem to lack in certain areas, there was a link on here today with baby clothes from another club???? we have not even got a club t shirt, perhaps more people could be asked what they can do for the club, rather than one person sorting out the welcome packs have ten people doing it, things like that. Also Craig David mention about the AGM being held at JAE and perhaps it should be more orientated to being online, I for one struggle to get to JAE because of work commitments and this is afterall an online based club.

Just my thoughts for what they are worth, I have been a member for a few years now, mainly offering advice for people having problems, joining in on the banter at times and occasionally chirping up when I think something is wrong or needs saying, I would not want to see this club go downhill in anyway and if changing was to mean that happening then please keep it as it is but I truely believe that with some effort, and not just on one persons behalf but from all the members this club will grow and grow and that means more traders, more members and more awareness of the 300zx, which might even mean the value of our beloved car goes up, but ultimately it will hopefully mean more enjoyment of the 300zx club for all of us.

I complained about you.

tbh i can't see anything wrong with current system

arn't the main posts selected by members already?

i'm not sure voting for mods would work to well, ie we could end up with

them all coming from one area, as obviously mates would vote for someone they know, not saying thats a good thing or bad

but i don't think anyone can honestly say a mod has been selected because of favoritism?

i think we as members should trust the committee to do what is best for us and the club, or as mentioned have your say at the agm, or ask someone to ask the questions for you if you can't get there, or pm an admin with something you want discussing,

also maybe a good idea for all that was discussed and decided at the agm

to be placed on the forum in some part of the members section, so everyone who couldn't attend can see what went on

only problem is some poor sod is gonna have to type it all out :nelson:

My personal opinion is that the AUP should have been voted on by the members.

The committee created the AUP and it seems odd for it to include things like "Directly opposing the decision of a Moderator on the Forum will result in the immediate enforcement of the Forum ban policy with no Warning." without asking the members if they're happy with that...

Having a set of mods, who aren't voted in by the members, enforcing an AUP, which wasn't voted for by the members, just doesn't seem right and seems bound to cause friction really. :nono:

thanks for the explanation mike, am sure it make ssense in some eyes, just not others. I would like to see at the very least though moderators (except for regional event ones) are voted in each year, simply because we have so many new members arriving all the time and obviously with different things to contribute to our club, least this way a greater number of people get to have a go at doing it, if none come forward then of course the existing is relected automatically.

cheers

That's correct, but to be more accurate we generally pick from people who volunteer. Typically a member of the Committee is approached by someone who expresses an interest in becoming more involved in the running of the club or generally helping out. Those people tend to become moderators or put themselves forward for vacant Committee positions.

thats what i did ,,i also have the moderator written on my sig,,,my personal oppinion is a volunteer is always doing there best for the club in which ever way they can,
