Hi Guys

I saw a demo of this "spray on" chemical and didn't know what to make of it. The product was sprayed onto half a number plate. A photo was taken by a digital compact camera with flash. The result was that the half of the plate sprayed, was unreadable owing to dazzle caused by the reflective properties of the chemical. The other half was readable.

Has anyone had any experience of this stuff?

If it does actually work, would your rear number plate light up like a Christmas tree at night by a following car's headlamps and thus arouse suspision?

Cheers

Jon

I bought two cans of it.

Sprayed it on the Skyline... not tested it though.

It says on the tin that a regular camera flash will not show its relective effectiveness. If you take a pic with of my plate with a camera you can see it clearly.

Allegedly the flash from a GATSO is x=times brighter, therefore causes the effect they are claiming.

Sounds very interesting

It's been around for a few years in one form or another.

I called them when I worked for a major motoring magazine and asked if we could test it. They just ignored me.

It's probably *****cks and the best it'll do is get you done for 'attempting to pervert the course of justice' or something.

Might be right Craig but would be interesting to find out more. Anything to help us poor motorists agaist the 'lets rake in lots of money from drivers bridage' eg the present grovenment.

Easiest way of doing that is not to drive so fast on the public road. ;)

Also leaves you liable to perverting the course of justice! Potential visit to Crown Court and a custodial sentence. Is it really worth it?

yes technically m8 but a bit ott for a can of spray

and who is to say it wasn't on the car when you bought it?

i run more risk having a laser jammer fitted, and the chances of me getting done for perverting the course of justice are VERY low, interfering with police equipment would be more the case, but i still reckon i would rather get that and it confiscated than the possible ban

but lol aint a clue if the spray works, and not sure all the info i have seen

if it has ever been proved, only concrete way to test it is to spray your plate and charge at a camera and wait for the postie or not lol

as above a normal diggy camera is not supposed to be good enough to test it

maybe get a few mates and buy a can between you as its supposed to do about 3-4 cars, and then see who gets nicked first and club together for the fine if it fails lol

I have an illegal rador detector and I don't care, cos it's hidden from view unless you look inside the car and know what to look for. He he

i wouldnt bother hiding it radar detectors are NOT illegal YET;)

There is currently nothing illegal about Radar detectors in the UK

It's not illegal to own one yet but it is illegal to operate one so I'm told.

The bill to ban them was thrown out and was not passed in time....

Yippeeee I'm legal then :hyper: :hyper: :nana2:

From what I've heard the spray stuff doesn't work. I don't think gatso's are a big problem anyway, they're big and yellow after all.

Dont ya think it's the sneaky speed camera partnerships that park their vans in lay-bys, bus stops, motorway bridges etc that are the main threat to us? Eyes peeled and a garage door opener like Billynomates is best defence, next to blowing the bstads up.

Yep, absolutely Gatso's are never a major threat (except in the rare instances where they are partially hidden), and in fact what I have noticed recently is that in a few area's Gatso's have been removed (possibly through damage), and not replaced becuase the police have realised that can make more money with am occasional Mobile camera van at the location instead. :xxx:

Not all of the gatso are yellow. There are a few parts of the UK where they dont have to have it yellow. Though one thing I can say about this spray thing is what happens if you have a foward facing camera? Sure as hell not going to help you get away with anything!

quite a few ones in the Peak District/Glossop area are painted green against a background of green trees. :mac1:

No seriously, pervert the course of justice would apply for spray can however you are more likely looking at obstruct police with a laser jammer / scanner.

Question is, how are they going to find out?

The coating is clear and you cant tell it has anything on the number plate. Its extremely unlikely if your pulled by a copper he is going to test your rear number plate for chemicals.

If a GATSO goes off and the spray does what it says on the tin, they cant find you anyway.

I have various camera etc warning devices in the car. GPS has them uploaded, I have an Origin B2 also. But on the unlikely off chance that I do get hit by a GATSO (which I havent yet) the plate spray is worth a try.

For the price of the spray, its worth protecting your ar**, or attempting to.

the only spray can you need is a can of laquer which you then spray all over the the lens of the offending camera :D it can't see propely then. £2.50 from halfrauds :D

Only problem there is being able to reach the affending article, but hold on a minute your nice and tall. Care to do some in the hampshire area for me. Make it worth your well ;) ;)

lol, just use a stick sweetheart with the can taped to the end of it, no need to be accurate :D

Just fallen off the chair again with laughter, and the dogs looking at me as if i'm a crazy woman.

lol  round my ex's way there was a single camera that'd been taken down 15 times by a guy with a pickup truck and a petrol driven angle grinder! dropped in the back, went off with it :D lol
