Help with identification Combination switch

Hi Guys

 

Can anyone help

 

In the picture below you can see that my old indicator / headlamp stalk has an extra 3 pin female connector attached as compared with the replacement on the left.

My car is '93 / TT / no cruise ...

 

Can anyone identify what the extra connector does (before I put the switch back in with the 3 pin plug dissconnected and possibly cause an electrical bonfire )...id rather ask you guys first !!!
