When i first joined there was a lot of talk that crap zeds on the market were running the price down, now it seems importers bringing in more and more of them is doing the same. how long do we rekon before the z32 price starts to go back up to normal level as they seem stupid cheap at the moment.

Very few cars ever go up in value.

I go on several other Japanese car forums and on every one people are moaning how their cars have suddenly dropped in value, just like on here.

I think the truth is all cars depreciate and very few ever pick up again.

The 300ZX just might but I wouldn't hold my breath.

it'll probably be a long time as the earlier 350Zs are being brought in on import, that'll cap the price of z32s.

one of the reason why Supras still fetch some money as Toyota hasn't built a sucessor to it and reducted the older cars prices.

i really don't understand why Z's go so cheaply, am i missing something? they have everything a car should be and even though most are as old as the hills they still drive better than some modern cars.. one of the best affordable cars out there i reckon and what's even better is a lot of folk don't even know what they are.

The running cost's make the zed a car thats not wanted by most people, lets face it, the only people who will own one, is a petrol head or a real car fanatic, they are not in the same class as a family car, so desire is much less.

saying that, a good example still brings in tidy money for a 15yr old car

i no tell me about it , mine would be worth a more lot otherwise , will just be my luck , my mate sold his sapphire cosworth for 4k then a 3 months later they were fetching 6-7k , as ford anounced they would no longer be made!!!

i still reckon if you want a good zed youve got to be lookin at spendin 4-6k! sure theirs a lot out there at £1200-3k but just how good are they?

thing is people hear the zed is a porsche beating car and buy

one £1500 not realising the cost porsche money to get fixed and serviced so end up neglecting them.

theirs 2 near my mum and dads in fairly crappy area of sheffield just parked up on a busy road covered in sh1t looking fairly miserable, put money on them not been their in 6months cos the guys just cant aford to look after them and flogs em for £1200. its a crime!

Spot on. These cars are getting bought by younger guys who have no idea what they're taking on. If the car doesn't end up wrapped around a lampost it'll have a terminal breakdown as they spent their money on bling rather getting her running right...or giving her a service...or actually spending a bit more and getting something other than an utter pup in the first place. Hey, at least with all of them being driven to the scrap heap it means that eventually they'll be less out there and the price will go up! Lol! With these cars, you pays peanuts, you gets monkeys. End of.

ive seen several "new owners" in the last few months who have all bought early jap or UK zeds for easy money £1800 - £2200. They all thought they had got cosworth eating, dougnut Diffing monsters.

I had to look at 3 cars which had no real history apart from the odd MOT slip. 3 of the cars were running around 25psi of compression on 2 cylinders and another revealed massive big end and wee end failures when the "gloooop" was removed from the sump after an oil change.

Also, when i recommend a 60K service, and quote the price, thier jaws bounce 3 times of the ground!!!!! if they only knew nissan chraged half the price they paid for thier cars!!!

Zeds will still get the right money from the right people, people with the wrong money will always buy the wrong Zeds :-)

Yes there is some shite about BUT at a pound a Litre there are some bargains about but you need someone who knows what they are looking at

yes Mick, but have you tried sifting through some of the shite out there to find them? lol

they are few and far between to be honest, best bargain ive seen this week is Kevs at 2.5K - and its not often you find a real bargain on a onwers club site of any kind! - we all know the true value of our cars.

the only car still holding good money is the supra mkiv TT Manual UK spec's - and they are panicking with the rumours and concepts floating around of the new "mk V" lol

Marty

Yes Mate I agree

To be honest Thats why I have gone the NA route as I would not want to skimp on a TT

And it came along at the right price ;)

I wish I had more money to spend I would love to have gone in at the 5-6k

end of the market. and i would quite happily spent it

other zeds have gone up in price

Have they? Z31's are pretty much worthless now, as are 280 zx's. 240/260z's have achieved a sort of classic status but the selling price for either of those in semi-decent condition will be way below the amount spent to keep them that way and their prices are only being held because of the very few numbers left. Suspect the Z32 has more chance of going the way of the Z31 and 280 rather than the 240/260.

The Z31 and the 280zx dont stand much chance at gaining value, everyone wanting the classics Z-car will always go for the early models, and the Z31 was a pretty awful car compared to the rest of the Z lineup (sorry to Z31 owners :()

The Early 240's fetch £10k+ for nicely restored examples.

The 300zx value far exceeds regular 15yr old car prices, but unfortunatly nothing like the prices they deserve in comparable company.

I agree but to be fair there is only one Nelson that still commands money...well the only Jap car from our era to be honest and that's the Skylark. Oh and the Mk IV Soups still seem to be holding quite well.

Look at GTO's they're worth nothing now either! Why? Because they're like our cars, when something breaks they cost a Fort Knox to repair and even then you struggle to find a competent mechanic to work on it.

Shouldn't tempt fate, but I've managed too keep my Z's on the road without forking out silly money and I'm not anymore than a DIY mechanic, afraid I can't see where all the expense is fixing them! Re the previous posts, the more that end up in the scrappies, great, cheaper bits for me and everyone else that fixes them.

the prices are low because a lot of them are shite, they look like tired, worn out 15 year old bangers with rust and trim falling off. Also lets face it, the engines and transmissions in these cars are not reliable, and DO cost major money to repair.

You say the supra and skyline are holding money??? nope!!

in the last year the supras have gone from a decent twin turbo model fetching 10k+ to now they can be had for 5-7k for a 1995 TT!!

and skyline are the same, a R32 GTR can be got for 4-8k depending on tune and a R33 has gone from fetching 15k with ease to people struggling to get 10-11k for a decent one??

So bearing in mind most of the zeds are a good 4 or 5 years older than most of the above as well so realisticly for 3-5k there about right in the market. Obviously your going to get exceptions but as we all know adding mods does not mean your adding value?? just look at sgt's car :(

The only jap car which is not suffering is the R34 and thats only because theres no model report so none can be imported so there sticking at £30k+ but once they get to that magic 10 years old (another 2 years) then prices will spiral down with them as well!!

Mike

It's pretty obvious really why the price is so poor. People buy them for their performance and probably looks, not realising the cost of ownership. After thrashing the guts out of them, and not being able to afford proper maintenance, there put back up for sale, but now with a few problems. We all know the average garage shake their heads when you pull in driving a Zed, so that goes against them as well. Once they have degenerated into a problem car which requires expensive specialist attention, the price just plummets, especially when they have also been chaved up. Ebay has highlighted this cheap price, so everyone expects to buy one for peanuts, even a good 'un. So, enjoy it, look after it, and keep smiling.

you can still get a car with no history and be safe as long as you know what your doing...when i got mine the only thing i got was an old cam belt that had just been done,,this was due to the chap being 60 ish years of age..he imported the car and drove 11k in 3 years his m8 serviced it just to keep in going because of it slow use..i got it after doing a good check took to the garage and apart from new busher and a few small bits the car was A1....we buy a car if we have the confidence to do so knowing what to look for...but do agree the first thing you should do is take to the garage get it checked and serviced as i did then start with the bling...lol to all

well i certanly would'nt sell mine this side of 20k

I would want 9K for my Zed as I think it is worth that ( & it has cost me 12K )

But I know if I needed to sell it quick I would be lucky to get 5K....

That's life......
