Well, I decided to start my brake upgrade, finally, as I've now got all the parts required. These included.......

New discs all round

New pads all round

New fluid

New SS braided flexi hoses

and all the new seals, shims, pins and bits and bobs for the callipers

First thing to go wrong is the fact that the SS flexi hoses haven't got the correct fittings in them :headvswal

Next problem is that I can't get any of the discs off, they are all stuck solid :headvswal

OK, I think, I'll have the discs sorted at my mechanics when all the correct fittings are here for the flexi hoses.

So I carry on with the calliper servicing anyway. Now this is where it turns a bit 'Chavy' ;) as I've decided to paint the callipers RED :D What a load of crap that is, it's supposed to be a two coat proces, like **** it is :nono: It's also supposed to resist brake fluid, but it dosn't do a very good job of that.

Anyway, all four callipers are serviced and painted, so the next morning it's time to fit them back onto the car, which I do without any further problems, untill.................

It's now time to bleed the brakes, so i follow the service manual 'TO THE LETTER' and something goes wrong!

This I know because the brake peddle goes almost straight down to the floor! The only thing we can think of is that not all of the air was out of the system, so we do it again, and again, and AGAIN!!!! Still no joy. So I phone my mechanic to see if he could sugest anything, and he said bring it down, which I did this morning.

Up on the ramps she goes, while I'm in there pressing the brake peddle, he is clamping the flexi hoses (glad I didn't fit the ss braided ones now) he finally come to the conclusion that there is a fault with both rear callipers!

Then we spot it........................................

I'll leave it there, see if anyone can guess what it was..... And NO, I hadn't forgotten to fit anything, everything was there in it's correct place.

cant be as bad as us, i bought my AP brakes and they came boxed up as left and right so we fitted them, bled them etc and fine. Took the car into RB Motorsports and Rod looks at the brakes and calls the others over and there all laughing???? me and my dad are looking at each other thinking WTF? anyway Rod says "did you have trouble bleeding them?" "NO" we reply so he tells us we have put them on upside down  worked fine :hyper: but we have swapped them over now :D

Well, that was exactly the problem. Somehow I'd got the brackets swopped over for the rear callipers and put them on the wrong side, so the bleed valve was at the bottom :headvswal

The fronts were fine and correct. Anyway they are now on the right wat round and working properly, even tested the ABS on the test drive ;)

Arr well, live and learn :D

thats the thing they will fit upside down fine, only problem is gravity makes bleading near on impossible

tip for rear discs dave-there are 2 acsess holes using a suitable bolt if you do the bolts up,it will push the discs of the hub,and also make sure the handbrake is off so the rear shoes are sat in off the hub

Thanks Greg, but I couldn't find a suitable size bolt to do that, and as for the fronts, I was hammering **** out of them with a rubber mallet, and not one bit did they move, so it's gona go to my mechanic once them ss hoses are sorted, and he can do the bits for me. More expense, but at least it'll be sorted.

I'm pretty sure that you can use bolts from elsewhere in the braking system to loosen the discs. I think the bolts that hold the bracket to the rear caliper fit to loosen one set of discs. Can't remember which ones fit in the others, but I did find some that did.

I'd spent a long time hitting them with a mallet too and it's amazing how easy it turned out to be just using a couple of bolts! ;)
